Hi All,
I've been lurking and reading all the great information that you all provide. My family (2 adults and 2 children ages 14 and 10) will be taking our first trip to St. John in July and now that it's getting close, we're starting to look at some specifics.
One thing that we'd really like to do is a daysail. We've read up on some of the recommendations, but since it's July, the choices are limited. I've contacted 4 boats and only 2 of them are available, Wayward Sailor and Treazzure.
Now the question, I've seen some recent comments about Capt. Phil and the Wayward Sailor, but not for Treazzure. Has anyone used Capt. Joe recently?
Thanks!

Hi! Welcome out of lurkdom!
Sorry, I don't have any info about Capt. Joe & Treazzure, but we went out with Capt. Phil and just loved him! I know others don't always give such glowing reports, but he was perfect for us. His boat is big enough for the 4 of you, and if you want tips and help with snorkeling, he's da man!
Flip-flop gives big kudos to Bread on the Water. It sounded like they had a fabulous day with them.

Thanks California Girl!
I should have mentioned that Bread on the Water and Survivan were the other boats that we contacted. Neither of these is available for our vacation.

Sorry, no info on Treazzure, but did enjoy our 1/2 day with Capt. Phil (should have made it a full day, in hindsight).
Sure, the guy is picky about procedure, but he lives on his boat - it's his home, so I figure he's got every right to be picky.
He's very knowledgeable and interesting. A great teacher for newbies and veterans alike.
Check out Gypsy Spirit too. I think that's who we went with last year and had a great time.

We only have experience with Captain Phil - been out with him 3 times on 1/2 day sails and full day sails. He tailors his sails to his clients. He taught us how to snorkel and started us free-diving. The Wayward Sailor is not a party boat. We have not been disappointed.

Wayward Sailor is locally considered one of the best sailed and best snorkel trips that work here. Capt. Phil knows the underwater spots better than most fish. I often think the comments about him being 'picky' come more from his delivery than the 'rules' themselves. It is not a large vessel and everything has a place on board and is not an obsession but excellent seamanship. The info and sights on the snorkel trip are extremely interesting and professional.
Treazzure is a large [60'?] vessel and often uses the motor to get from place to place since it needs a lot more wind to get sailing along. Capt. Joe also uses a large , powerful center console dinghy to accommodate his guests. A much different experience since it is a spacious yacht with a lot of room including down below with settees, video, a/c etc.
Both Captains work hard for their guests and keep the boats clean and shipshape.

I have sailed both boats. Wayward Sailor was years ago and Treassure was about 4 years ago. If I had to pick one, I'd go with Treassure. It's much larger and more comfortable, and Joe has a grill on the back of the boat and is a great cook. When we went out with him, it was just my daughter and myself. We were the only 2 guests on the boat. It was a totally still day and we did have to motor a lot, but that did not take away from the enjoyment of Treassure at all. I believe Joe has made some improvements to the boat since we last sailed with him. It was great then, so I'm sure it's even better now.
