We are arriving on STJ in 17 days and want to take an open water certification class, and wanted to hear about others' experiences. We saw where we could take classes from Low Key Watersports, Cruz Bay Watersports and 6-PAQ Scuba.

Have any of you taken lessons from these or other instructors. We'll have to make a choice soon. Did I tell you that we arrive in 17 days? :)

3 of us did our open water certification dives with Low Key in February and they were great! We took the classroom and confined water dives here at home, and booked the 4 open water dives (2 mornings) for when we were on St John. Staff in the shop were very friendly and helpful and the divemasters were great and a lot of fun to be with.

One of the best things about the location of Low Key is that it's right on the beach in Cruz Bay and is right beside The Beach Bar. It's a great place to sit and have a drink, talk about the dive and fill in the dive logs.

Hope this helps a little, but I can understand the confusion ... we went through the same thing when we were booking.

Good luck.

Two perspectives here.

Colette 6 paq is great for a newbie who is nervous or inexperienced. Chris Sawyer is EXCELLENT for more experienced divers (and possibly inexperienced ones as well). I was terrified but determined to try diving and went with Colette. What she was able to get me to do was nothing short of a miracle. (This was after a failed attempt that included hyperventilating with Low Key).

My husband, who is far more experienced that I and not nervous even a teensie bit, will not dive again with any outfit other than Chris Sawyer's. We didn't use them for years because of the hauling butt over to STT thing, but now they pick up at Caneel. He went on a night dive toward the end of our trip and I think if we were not leaving so soon after he would have booked more trips with them.

We dove with cruz bay watersports last Feb. and had a great time, dove with James and with Justin and both were very patient and reassuring. I think both used to be on St. T .

Chris Sawyer is the way to go
