Missed Gibney Beach Cottage by 1 day - I'm crushed

So bummed right now, I finally got up the nerve to take a trip without our kids, had my heart set on Gibney Beach Cottage, emailed for availability for our very inflexible dates, and the email came back that she was expecting a deposit by FedEx that same day for the week we wanted. Ugh. The other cottage is available, but it's just not the same...whine, whine.
Now what? I've been searching all day for a similar villa but have found nothing. Husband not sure about staying in Coral Bay as we wanted to sample all of the "grown up" restaurants in Cruz Bay we never do when we bring the kids, and doesn't want to do the drive back to Coral Bay each night.
Any suggestions for a very special villa for 2 the last week of Jan '09 (24-31st)?

Do the back cottage, its literally 30 feet behind the other. I know, I know, water front, blah blah. But maybe you can make nicey nice with the neighbors.
I bet if you offer to bring dinner and drinks over for one night, they will want to share the front porch with you the rest of the stay. And if not, who cares? Just walk around the yard and park it on the sand with your wine and cheese.

Mathayom is right, go for the Garden Cottage if that's the location you want. If it were just my husband and I, I'd choose Caneel over the Gibney cottages. I think the rates are comparable and you have several beautiful beaches to choose from at Caneel. Restaurants are an easy taxi ride away if you choose to forego the car rental. Transportation to/from St. Thomas via the Caneel ferry is super convenient. We were die hard villa people and after 5 trips tried Caneel and were very pleasantly surprised.
Sea Spirit in Coral Bay might be an option for a cool setting.

You sound just like my husband

We looked at the cottages pre-kid and he refused to stay there because we couldn't get the front one. (there were a few others factors involved making a different choice)

Have you looked at other beachfront villas?
From my experience, there are a handful of other beachfront villas in that same price range.
From the Caribbean Villa website index has a list of beachfront villas (
http://www.caribbeanvilla.com/3bindex.html). Beach Music looks very nice to me. I stayed in Rainbow Beach and it was convenient but the house is very dated.
I'm sure there are other beachfront rentals out there.
Good luck!

Here's something to cheer you up - in January, due to the Christmas winds there is very little beach (if any) at Gibney - in fact this year for 3-5 days of every week for Jan and Feb it was unusable
so think of the positive
OK, so now we have settled that - what are you looking for in a villa?? If it is beachfront, how about Spindrift or Forts Cove - both are next to each other and I have to warn you the road is a b**ch, the beach rocky and very wavy but a great view and the sound of the ocean - spectacular

The winds were one reason we changed our 2006 trip to late Feb. We stayed above Gibney thbe last week in January 2005 and could only see sand one day out of seven, which was sort of a bummer.
We returned to the same house in 2006 but in late February and went to Gibney every day.
