Trip Report – Day Three – Born to Rhumb

Monday dawns with a bit of rain, but the skies quickly clear and after my morning meeting with Bruce, the Evil Chicken, I wake everyone up for our Boat Day with Captain Kevin on Born to Rhumb.

We find two parking spots right at the dock and are actually a few minutes early!

This is our third trip with Captain Kevin and it was just as fabulous as the previous years. The new mate, Stephanie, is an absolute gem and we hit a few new spots this year. Customs is now done at Sopher’s Hole, a huge improvement over Roadtown.

We head over to the Indians for a snorkel, but it is crowded so Captain Kevin once again finds us a nice secluded spot. A bunch of folks go off snorkeling and I commence my version of water activity – sitting on my noodle, which is attached to the boat, with a beer in hand. Now that is living!!

We head to the caves and Cousin Lisa goes on a salvage mission to rescue a stranded life jacket off of the beach.

This year’s lunch spot was Pirates on Norman Island. What a sweet spot!

They serve painkillers in buckets!!! That’s right, you can enjoy your favorite island cocktail AND bring home a souvenir for the kids

As we head back to the boat, there is a family of stingrays hanging out under the dock.

Next stop – Sandy Spit. It actually made me very sad to see the little island without it’s leaning palm tree
The water was pretty rough here and one of the funniest sights of the week was me and my cousin Laurie trying to put our flippers on in the water and get back to the boat. The waves kept knocking us down and pushing us back to shore, which made me laugh so hard I couldn’t get back in!! It was quite a show for the folks already back on board.

Next stop – Soggy Dollar. Ahhhh. Painkillers, Ring Game, Hammocks. Need I say more?

Time to head back to St. John. Captain Kevin cranks the tunes and we sing along at the top of our lungs back to Cruz Bay. Another incredible day on Born to Rhumb!
How do you end such a fabulous day, you ask? Why, Happy Hour at Woody’s of course!! We stop in for a few more cocktails and we get to buy Stephanie a drink – what a sweetheart she is!!

After an hour or so of singing and dancing at Woody’s, we head home to the hot tub at Vistaero.

I whip up a delicious frittata for dinner, we make a salad, open some wine and crank up Laurie’s fantastic playlist. As people start dropping off to bed, my cousin Kate and I are sitting on the deck gazing at the incredible display of stars when one shoots right out of the sky!!! What a magical end to a fantastic day.
