Calling all ladies:
has anyone taken a flat iron on board the plane??? i can live without taking makeup etc etc but not the iron. do you think it would cause a problem at the airports. we are only doing carryon. thanks so much girls

I've never taken a flat iron, but I took electric rollers to St. John (boy! was THAT ever a joke!!). I don't think you have anything to worry about...you can't use it as a weapon and it's not a liquid or gel. When I went to New Orleans, I had my laptop in my carryon. Leaving San Diego everything was fine, but returning from N.O. they made me take it out of my suitcase and put it thru the x-ray separately. I think if you can take electric rollers and laptops, they probably wouldn't even blink at a flat iron! 
Check the TSA website, they list all the do's and don'ts of what to take.

I have taken a curling iron on the plane with no problem, so I would think a flat iron should be fine (I assume you mean a hair straightener).

I've brought a flat iron, hairdryer, etc but only in my checked luggage. So I don't really have an answer.
Someday hopefully, I can bring myself to just a carry-on...as it is now I need one case just for shoes
CAgirl has it right by suggesting you check the TSA site or your airline's site.

My daughter always packs her flat iron in her carry on. Never had a problem.

My friend brought one, no problems. I'm pretty sure she never used it though. We all just went around with wet heads until our hair dried naturally. (That's what I do at home too. Kinda lazy about it.
But my hair is so stick straight it doesn't matter what I try to do with it anyway.) There might have been a hair dryer in the villa because I know we didn't bring one and I have a vague memory of DH drying his hair once or twice. So you if you were planning on bringing a dryer you might be able to save some room on that at least; check with the villa.
Way to go with the carry on! It's nice to go light and not wait for checked luggage once you land.

I travel for work fairly often and I always carry-on my flat iron without any problems.

I am also never one of those that can travel without a flat iron!! it's never been a problem to take it in my carry on. Enjoy your trip!!! I can't wait to be back on STJ!

Flat Iron – Hair – Seeing that I don’t have any hair and thought a Flat Iron was something you use for cooking, I can’t help. But I now know what a Flat Iron is. Thanks Girls

Is that one of those things that looks like a portable waffle iron with a handle and makes the whole room smell like burning hair? If it is, my wife brought one on carryon.

Yup! They are fine to carry-on. I carry mine on every trip.

OMG. I *have* hair, and am even a female, and I had no idea what a flat iron is. My first thought, why in the world would anyone need an iron on St. John? I guess that says something about both my hair styling abilities and my wardrobe, lol.
