Would you need A/C in your villa in December?

We are considering a villa without A/C for our 2 week December trip. We have ALWAYS required a/c in the BRs and have always used it.

Last year our travel companions never turned theirs on, but ours hummed away every night.

We want to stay on the Coral Bay side of the island and have located a great house and negotiated a great price, but the fear of not being cool enough to sleep frightens me.

Of course, the owner says the villa has great breezes and a/c is not needed at all, but hey haven't we all heard that over and over again?

well...we stayed ON cinnamon beach in December and it was sort of chilly at night! There was a great breeze and we definitely didn't need AC.....we even turned off the fans once or twice!

hard to say...but I wouldn't think so...

I voted no, not because of loving the heat but when we were there in Dec./Jan. we never needed it. (Villa didn't have it.) We had ceiling fans and great breezes even though we were surrounded by trees. Some nights I was actually cool and turned off the fan. I also liked hearing all the tree frogs at night through the open windows.

You mention that you've previously stayed on STJ in December and used your a/c every night while your traveling companions didn't use theirs. Seems that you found a need for it then, which pretty much answers the question if you'd be okay without it.

We do fine without a/c, but other people would be absolutely miserable without it. If I was living there I'd probably want a/c, but for a week or so on vacation I'm fine without it. People did live on STJ for a long time before there was a/c and Caneel didn't have it until recently, so it is humanly possible.

What villa are you staying at? We're here now and on this side of Coral Bay it's been really breezy. We could live without the AC at night but we sleep better with it on. The house itself is not air conditioned, only the bedrooms. On the other side of the Bay the breezes are not as great. We're at Pink Horses and it's been awesome. Lots of breeze and NO bugs!!

I would say no. We were on Ajax Peak from late Dec into early Jan and I was actually chilly a couple nights looking for extra blankets!

Depends, for the most part never in winter. On N Shore absolutely not...in the summer on the N shore you can have doldrums and it rarely gets sticky. fans are sually plentiful and very adequate. Cruz Bay and S shore can get really hot...

Just in the bedroom. The upstairs was fine without it, but I like the cool temp while I am sleeping.

We also stay in Coral Bay, A/C in bedrooms at night for me! I sleep much better!! The other 2 couples did not use theirs! There is always a breeze, especially in December in Coral Bay with the Christmas Winds. Personal preference I would say!

Well, it looks like the consensus is "no".

If I had my way, I would definitely want a/c. (just in case it gets really, really hot)

However, in an effort to be thrifty, and because no one else in our group considers it a necessity, I think I'll give it a try once without.
