Anyone been to Sapphire Beach Resort on STT lately?

Ok.....we are avid st. john lovers here, but we are staying in St. thomas at the end of June because we are bringing our 3 year old and 5 year old...and Grandpa! We thought this might meet everyone's needs this time....."ocean front"...close to things to do for grandpa...golfing for grandpa.....a short ferry ride to our favorite st.john spots, etc.....

sooooooo, as we are approaching our departure date, we've been researching and looking at trip reports, and we've uncovered some unfavorable reviews of the resort. We know it is depending on who you rent from, as they are individually owned, but what concerns me is the restaurants and/or bars not being open! We picked a resort, per se......so that we could grab a quick burger or a drink while outside at the beach or pool. That being said, some people said the pool wasn't that great either.

So these Bostonians are trying not to over react and freak out..... has anyone stayed there recently or has seen the property recently? Specially some of our "resident locals?"......What would YOU do?

If you are renting from Antilles, the rental agent, you can request a different room if for any reason you are not happy with your condo. If you are renting direct from an owner get pictures, and be sure to have a contact phone number in case anything goes wrong.

There are rumors that the restaurant will be closing soon, but if that happens they will open a Grill that will serve burgers etc. during the day.

I think the beach and view are so spectacular there that I would go for it.

Hey Holly,

Sorry that my experience is not very recent, last July actually. Anyway, there is a beachside place @ Saphire that sells snacks/drinks. I'm not sure if the onsite restaurant-Grapevine Grill is still open or not.

I've never actually stayed @ the resort but the beach area is nice and "good enough" snorkeling for beginers and kids. Love the resident ducks there too, so cute

I think you'll have a wonderful time there with the kids and Grandpa!

Enjoy,
Kathy

Deb and I stayed in a friends condo at Sapphire Village, which are the condos above the Marina overlooking the water as opposed to the Beach which is Waters Edge. As far as I know Grapevine is still open. We were at the beach about a month ago with some friends from the states and the little pool bar on the beach was open as well. It is a nice beach and assuming you get a clean unit you will have a great time. I hope you rented a car because it is just a short hop to Red Hook and there are a ton of places to eat and drink there as well.
Enjoy your stay.
