Help - 2 weeks in June - which islands (both USVI & BVI)

hello, I know this question is not specifically directed at a USVI board (but i can't seem to find a general VI board), so please forgive me for posting this here.

A friend and I (both 24yrs) are planning our first trip to the caribbean and we've decided on the Virgin Islands in very early June. We have two weeks and we'd like to hit a couple of islands for a varied and fun (yet relatively cheap) trip. So, two questions:

1. How many and which islands (both USVI & BVI) would you visit over a 2 week period?
2 Also what's the best "bang for your buck" or worth the expense for the experience in terms of activities and places to stay?

Nightlife is not an interest, but snorkelling and other water activities are, as well as culture and things to explore and some relaxation. We don't need all of these things in the place same place, different locations for different things is great. I've read about seeing turtles and seahorses and dolphins and hermit crab races (all very unique things). We want to try new fun things and do some relaxing too.

What would you recommend?

Thanks for helping two newbies :)

I would definately consider camping, if you dig that kind of thing. Cinnamon Bay campground on St. John is a great spot. White Bay campground on Jost Van Dyke is great. I would also seriously consider Anegada - Neptune's Treasure is a great inexpensive tiny hotel that is quite inexpensive.

Check out my island hopping BVI trip report here in the archives and at http://www.garvin.us/STJ/Trip_Reports/2 ... pping.html.

First off, you are going to love the islands. It sounds like you have the right attitude and are looking for the things that the islands have to offer.

My suggestion would be:
10 days on St John. This will give you the opportunity to visit St. Thomas (quick ferry ride), Tortola and Virgin Gorda (both day trips), fully appreciate all that St John has to offer, and then for the ultimate in quiet and relaxation, 4 days on Jost Van Dyke.

I am sre that you will have many more questions, ask away. We are all VI junkies and love to help plan trips, even if it is for other people.

Hi,

There are lots of options - and all are good.

We just returned from 6 days on Virgin gorda and 6 days on St. John. VG is very quiet off season and the snorkeling is excellent (we didn't venture very far). We also did a day trip to Anegada.

For BVI, Tortola would also be an excellent choice to stay (we spent a week there last year after a sail charter); and there are easy day trips to other islands. Cane Garden Bay is a great beach and has several bars/restaurants, but not great snorkeling. Beachfront accomodations are very reasonable.

PM me with any specific questions.

We stayed at the Marriot which we enjoyed very much it’s one of the best resorts on the island. I also had a very enjoyable island tour with www.viscenictours.com the tour was very informative and the tour operator was very friendly and also told us a lot of cool things and places to go also. We visited the most exciting sites on the island and the beaches there are the most beautiful in the world we went snorkeling at Coki Beach which is one of the most popular beaches on St. Thomas, with crystal clear water, white sand and beautiful reef where the fishes were eating from our hands.
