about being on St John In Sept/Oct.
I have only been there in late Jan and Feb but we are considering a trip during this time and I don't know the pros/cons. I know it is low season/hurricane season, so trip insurance is a must.
What else do I need to know?
How is the water?...I would expect warm. Is snorkeling descent?
Is it rainy? BUGS?
How are the winds?
Bring it on...Please any info is appreciated!

Hi Carolyn,
We visited STJ in early October 2004 and it was lovely.....very warm, calm water, no rain, hardly anyone on the beaches. The restaurants were all open too. Would do it again in a heart beat.

Carolyn-
We went once in Sept. and I liked it for a couple reasons.
Pros- GREAT DEALS on villa rentals
Island & beaches empty compared to high season.
No problem finding a table at a restaurant or
bar any time of the day.
more laid back, like twenty years ago
Cons- Alot of places (restaurants) are closed this
time of year.
Hurricane season, get travel insurance.
We would love to go again but with the kids just starting school, we can't.

We were there this past October, and we also visited in October 2003.
How is the water?...I would expect warm. Is snorkeling descent?
Very warm, very calm, excellent snorkeling.
Is it rainy? BUGS?
Ths past October we had beautiful weather. Some passing showers but not much. October 2003 we had perfect weather, but two days after we left there was torrential rain, it caused a lot of damage.
How are the winds?
It's not windy--I thought the weather was very comfortable. In 2003 we stayed in a house on Hart Bay with no AC and we were fine.

GREAT...Thanks for the responses. I am so hoping to pull this trip off. It would be "girls only" and I am the only one that has ever been to St John. SO, I have all of the knowledge and am more than willing to make the plans. Now due to the very early state of the idea, we go to seeing how many of us can do it/ when/etc. I am sure I will have more questions as the plan progresses.
I did learn something new yesterday. Since we are all from the Atlantic City area leaving from that airport makes the most sense. I got a great price for a Sat-Sat visit and started checking other days to find out that after Sept2'08 Spirit is only going to St Thomas one day a week on Sats. WOW...thats new! isn't it? Since it is off-season would the STT airport be as crazy as travelers report on this board?
