I just got off the phone with Dana at Carolina Corral, booking my daughters' horseback rides. She has moved the stable to a more convenient place right past Skinny Legs. This is a favorite activity for my girls.
Carlina Corral info is at

Thanks for the information. I was actually going to ask that question eventually because my daughter wants to ride on STJ too. How is it there?

I have always enjoyed my rides on STJ. It's not like lazily winding through the woods here in Wisconsin, mind you. There are some steep up and down hills on loose rocks, but the horses are wonderful and know what they're doing. There are some spectacular views from the top of the hill behind the Moravian church. Did a beach (rocks, not sand) ride once and even got to go in the water a bit. I think they do moonlight rides, but I've never done one.
Sea-nile, call ahead and pick a time. You could just show up and see if they've got space, but it's better to know you can get in. It can be a very hot ride, so I tend to prefer the late afternoon rides (and the light at that time of day is really pretty), but that's just me.

Most of their horses are rescue horses from other islands. They have a good variety of types. My girls have some favorites. Dana mentioned that she does not let the horses walk in the water anymore because a couple of them like to roll in the water, rider or not! Since the trails are steep she takes them across the soccer field so that those who like can do some cantering. Me? I'll be snorkeling at Haulover South while the girls do their thing.
