Hi all - Heading to St John for the first time in early July, rented Pebble Cove before reading this forum. Any advice about family friendly restaurants in Coral Bay area? Is it possible to rent kayaks or catch a boat trip to the BVI from Coral Bay? What are the must sees? Thanks...

Restaurants in Coral bay area:
Skinny Legs (great burgers and grilled Mahi-Mahi, local sports bar)
Donkey Diner - GREAT breakfast and pizza
Island Blues - good food, great people, great atmosphere
Aqua Bistro- great drinks, good lunch spot
Sweet Plantains - never been, but it's scheduled for December!
Shipwreck Landing - great seafood and great atmosphere
Miss Lucy's - wonderful, relaxing not to be missed Sunday Brunch and Jazz
Favorite Beaches: Salt Pond and Lameshur
Here's a great link for Coral Bay area:

Check out East End also for Vie's Snack Shack and Sloop Jones.

Cruz Bay is only 20-30 minute drive!!

Hey Anne&Bert,

They are all family friendly!!!! I don't know the age of your child(ren), but my daughter is almost 13 and she has been in every joint in Coral Bay (many many times)and we've never felt out of place. Her favorite is probably Island Blues for Debbie Does Kareoke Night. She publicly belted out her first Bob Marley song there several years ago and made us very proud. Skinny's and Shipwreck are probably a very close second only because she has never sung there. Donkey Diner is our breakfast and pizza favorite. Sweet Plantains has become our favorite put on your best shorts and flowered shirt night place. We really enjoyed Flyaway Charters last year for our BVI trip and would recommend them highly. Truman picked us up behind Skinny's and gave us a great day on one of his power cats. Have fun.

Take care,
Budman

Hey Anne & Bert;

You guys will love it. I agree with lazylane and budman everything there is family oriented. We fell in love with Coral Bay our favorite beach is Maho Bay...very quiet, not many people and can back your jeep right onto to the beach. You will need to rent a car. Driving is on the left!!!!

Last year 6 of us did a day sail on the scubadu with Captain Joe Mellen you can check it out at this link;
http://www.sailvi.com/ We sailed over to the BVI Jost Van Dyke. Hit Foxy's first and then back on board for a Caribbean Caesar Salad with marinated steak and sailed over to the Soggy Dollar Bar and then back on board for a slow sail back to Cruz Bay.
He will go anywhere you want!

Shipwreck landing was one of our favorite places to eat and hang out. Everyone there is very nice.

Have a great time!!!

All great recommendations. We just spent a week in Coral Bay and had a blast. Pebble Cove is a killer location for a first time. For some reason, I thought that house came with kayaks? You can rent them from Crabby's next to Aqua Bistro.

My daughters love riding with Dana from Carolina Corral. You'll see the sign on the way to your house for the first time, just past Skinny Legs. 340-693-5778 - tell her Rick sent you. She is great with first timers and has riding helmets. Her horses are super gentle. My 10 year old's favorite was Winter.

Cheers, RickG

Welcome to the forum! I have to second the suggestion for Sunday Brunch at Miss Lucy's. Get there early-ish, around 10:00 or 10:30 to get a table outside next to the water and listen to the live jazz while you have a lime-n-coconut and some of the BEST banana pancakes you'll ever have!

We had to sit inside 'cause we got there at 11:00!

definately get the book: Feet, Fins and Four Wheel Drive. It will tell you how to access the beaches.
It is 2nd only to this forum for invaluable info.

Thanks :>)

I will also recommend the Scubadu! Its a great way to experience the Virgin Islands in a different light, from the water! There's nothing like it!! Captain Joe's a blast! 8)

We stayed at Pebble Cove about 5 -6 years back. At that time they had a sea kayak down on the beach to use. Great location! Watched a small pod of dolphins with juveniles right off the patio a couple times during the stay. You've also got one of the great snorkel spots (water conditions permitting) on the island (down the hill and across the road) at Haulover. Watch out for the "turtle" crossing the road!

Snack Shack further down east end is also very close.
