Flight Question Part 2 How is this price?

Round trip Boston to STT $609 President's Week. Two different airlines and one stop each way- on the way down in D.C. and on the way home Charlotte.

We obviously have plenty of time but I'm not sure what the prices will do with the cost of gas being expected to continue to rise.

Is the AA non-stop scheduled yet? We just took that flight and it was so nice to get on at Logan and off on STT 3.5 hours later (we only paid $404, but was between President's week and April vacation).

The roundtrip, nonstop on AA is around $1750.00 that week.

That was pretty much my reaction. I guess we could book those flights but that would mean we'd have to find an empty villa and become squatters for a week.

Try useing YAPTA.com it will watch the flights and let you know when they go down if you buy them at a higher price the will tell you how to get a rebate

We found the same high fares (higher, actually) for the non-stop from Boston right after Xmas but amazingly, we were able to get 4 tickets with miles. Had to do some sharing and gifting around the 4 of our accounts but it still ended up being way cheaper than buying them. Have you looked into that option for the direct flight?

Is $600 an acceptable amount for you to pay? You always take a gamble when you find a (somewhat) decent fare and you know fuel prices are rising. You might get lucky, or you might not. I say, if $600 is in your budget and buying the tickets makes you feel better, then do it.

One question though - are you taking one airline each way (like AA through Miami to get to STT and US Air through Charlotte to return)? Or, are you taking one airline to a connection point and then another to/from STT? I ask because if you book the fare and it's the latter scenario, you have no choice but to use expedia/orbitz, etc? However, if you can book two one way's, then you can do so through the airlines directly and get a voucher if the price goes down.

This is pretty much what we did for Spring Break for about the same price. But, we saved $800 by leaving on Friday rather than Sunday.

Cheers, RickG

Thanks for all the tips everyone. We're looking to go Friday to Sunday. That saves us quite a bit and also gives us 8 full days of vacation with 2 travel days. We're using ITA software to find fares which is a fantastic tool. I will definitely register with Yafta for any fare decreases. am going to gamble a bit and just watch things for awhile. I have enough miles for 1 ticket, one way and am pretty close to a second. How much rum do you think I can buy with that savings??

You don't have to worry about the rum because there won't be any left when I leave 5 days to go

Good luck! I'm right behind you - planning to look for flights for the April '09 (Patriots' Day week) break. Don't ya just love the fact that the all of MA (and much RI and NH) have Feb and Apr breaks during exactly the same time? Talk about an airfare nightmare - UGH!!!

We booked our flight for the end of May on Feb 18th. Bos to STT with a stop in San Juan each way. Tickets were $561 for two. I've been checking with Yapta (a very good service), but they haven't given me any alerts. I imagine the cost will only continue to go up, as fuel prices rise etc...It seems like a crap shoot right now as to when or where the best prices will be!
