Does anyone have recent photos of the mega sprawling mansion that is located at the tip of Peter Bay out nearest to the cliff? Has it been completed yet? Any details?

Yes I do. The was taken March 1, 2008
We saw people, who appeared to be guests/owner, during the week we stayed around the bend. We would see lights on at night and people out on the patios, hanging out.
As big as it is, at least the colors somewhat blend into the landscape.

Thank you for that photo! I was there when they were building it (walls were being built) and someone told me the owner had something to do with the creation of a special chip that goes in satellite phones. This was to be his "retirement" home.

How do we get invited to those parties?
When I saw that place I assumed it was what people call the Monster villa, as in the people who started Monster.com. Is there a villa owned by them? If so is it also huge?

Not that anybody asked me, but I personally not only don't think of it as "tasteful," but to me it looks a festering zit on the ass of STJ. Especially from Francis Bay.
I live in an area in MD where folks seem to be trying to out do each other with decadence. About a mile from here there is a house being built that is bigger then some small towns. It has 4 oil furnaces to heat it! 3 people will live in it. But, hey! Like the "Monster Villa" it has kept a lot of different construction workers busy for 3 years now.

Whereas the early continentals in stj saw themselves as guests and even the very wealthy ones satisfied themselves with modest homes, now more and more continentals came down, some of whom are impatient with the old island ways and customs. Where as they are erecting monuments that are totally out of step with St. John's style and the surrounding natural environment. There are those who say, this is progress and "get over it" but it is very difficult when so many changes happening at a very fast pace.

I prefer the cute little local Caribbean cottage with character over a mega mansion that could be anywhere in the US mainland. But that is just my opinion, thanks for letting me vent.

It just goes to show that you can't buy taste.

I know you may find this hard to believe, but Pete, I agree with you 100%.

I think it's tacky and gaudy. So I would only stay there a month if the rent were low enough.

My family comes from a line of builders, so I find the architecture of this palace quite beautifully designed. I understand it may not be in everyones taste and some have certain feelings about it being built on this island. Thank you for all the photos that were posted. I find it interesting to look at. I'm sure when it's finished it will end up on the cover of many different magazines if the owners allow it to be. A lot of craftmanship has gone into that quaint residence.
