SCUBA questions

Hi all, The wife and I just got SCUBA certified. We will be on St John in late May/early June. We will be with a large family group, one of the couples is renting a largeish boat while we are on the island.

Here are my questions.. Will the Westin or Low Key rent out dive tanks? meaning rent tanks to people whom are not going on one of their chartered boats? Would it be possible for the 4 of us who are diving to hire a dive master for the day? Someone who could help us navigate to good dive spots and be around for safety reasons. If so how much would this cost?

I know I can call the Westin or Low Key and ask the same questions, but I wanted to give someone on this board a chance to respond first.

Thanks: LS

Contact Collette with 6paq scuba. I would think if she is free, this might be something she would be willing to do. Several on here will recommend her. We went with her last May and she is very knowledgeable.

We rent tanks from Low Key all the time. It's so easy with them out in the driveway.Cost is minimal.Finding a dive master shouldn't be a problem but you will have to check and find one not working that day.You should probably check with your boat rental about diving off their boat.they might not allow it.

As for the divemaster - I would check with the dive shop that you rent the tanks from. Give them a few days notice and I sure they can find someone.

And I agree - Collette with 6-Paq is another good option. She might have a divemaster that could go with you.

Thanks for all your responses.. I have sent an email to Collette to ask some questions.. Now while I have the divers' attention let me ask another question.. What is your favorite dive spot in close proximity to St John? I don't know of any names and I'd like to start some research.

Thanks!

The rhone "sp" is a cool wreck dive

I second that waterguy. We went with Low Key out to the Rhone in February and it was great. It's off Salt Island in the BVI's. Even got to do a couple of swim-throughs. Check the history out at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RMS_Rhone

Rhone is a "must do" and if you like wrecks, the Maj. Gen. Rogers is only about 60ft deep and alot closer to Cruz Bay. Stevens Key is usually a good 2nd dive because it is shallow and a drift dive.
