I have searched the forum and cant find the post where someone had reported getting a rash or something from a hot tub. We are wanting to get a villa with one, but are hesitant about it because of the report. Anyone have any info on this ??
Thanks...:)

I had this rash once from a hot tub when I was in high school. It was nasty! But I think it usually happens in hot tubs that see alot of traffic (hotel/motel, health club, etc.). I don't think it's common in home/villa hot tubs.

It might have been me. I have said on here more than once that John gets rashes from hot tubs. I really think it is just him though--not that the tub is dirty or has a wrong chemical concoction. He just has really sensitive skin.

He was able to use the hot tub at Cinnamon Tarn without getting a rash. We used it with the heat off though--I don't know if that made a difference.

Yep the wife and I and our friends got a funky rash once from a hotel hot tub. The first thing the doc said was were you in a hot tub he knew as soon as he looked at it. Think it's caused by some bacteria that can grow if chemicals are not kept high enough. That hot tub did smell a little earthy. I guess thats why most hotels keep so much chlorine in them. Ya know the kind that turns your favorite swim suit from red to pink. I think if ya can smell chlorine ya should be fine.

The Mr. and I both got infections from a hotel hot tub. It also ruined our new bathing suits, took the color right out of them! We both had to go to the emergency room...so no more hot tubs for us, period.

My husband got a horrible complete body rash several years ago from a hot tub at a beautiful villa on St. John. Had to take antibiotics when he got home. Don't think he'll be hot tubbing anymore, just pools.

We have a hot tub at home, they are a lot of work to keep the chemicals balanced. I had a rash when our PH levels went down, had to use antibotics. The doctor knew right away it was from the Hot Tub. I will never get into a hot tub at a hotel or a villa now. Just because I know they have to be checked all the time using chemical strips. We don't use chlorine in ours, we use bromine another chemical that does not fade my bathing suits.

Another perspective on hot tubs.
We have one at home and it is no trouble to keep the chemicals right. I use bromine. The only maintance I do is a weekly shock treatment of 1/4 cup. I do have a 'frog' that floats in the hot tub which has a bromine cartridge. If I forget to do the weekly shock treatment and the ph and alkalinity get out of whack, I take a sample of the water to the spa shop and they tell me what to add. That doesn't happen very often. Maybe it is easy because it is just the two of us using it? Nothing feels better after at the end of the day than soaking your troubles away!

We won't be using the hot tub at the villa.

Wow! I should have you talk to my husband. I think he's scared now after I came down with the Hot Tub rash. It didn't effect him at all. The water has been staying crystal clear now. Maybe he just didn't understand how the chemicals work. I made him go back to the Hot Tub dealer and figure things out. I love our Hot Tub, I could not live with out one now. Still won't use one at a hotel though.

We too had a friend get an all over rash from the hot tub at a house on STJ. This was years ago but enough to make me swear them off altogether. They just seem like a germ festival to me anyway!
