Leaving Tomorrow, But There's Always Something

So we leave tomorrow for an overnight before we catch the 6:50am Suncountry flight out of Minneapolis on Easter Sunday. For both couples, it's our first trip to St. John as well as our first trip without kids in years.
Took Sebastian our 12+ year old great pyrenees to the vet yesterday because he's been acting a little stiff. Being 12 I didn't think too much of it. Turns out he has Lyme disease and heartworms.

He's on medication for the Lyme (6 pills twice a day) and will be tested for the heartworm extent as soon as we get back. (The vet said he didn't show any signs of it, so it's not that urgent of a situation.) The tests will show what the prognosis for treatment will be. Sucks getting old, whether you're human or pet.
I'm hoping the weather clears up down there.
Trip report when I get back.

My eye doc has two great pyrenees (brings them to the office every day) and they are such a nice breed.
That is sad, we are pet lovers too with elderly animals and I dread their aging.
Hopefully the big guy will start to feel better today!

Our dog had Lyme last spring. Went to get him out of his crate one morning and his back end was totally paralyzed....scared us to death. We got him to the vet ASAP and got a diagnosis of Lyme. Put him on 6 weeks of antibiotics and he's been fine ever since. I know how it is to travel and leave a sick pet behind. We had a 15 year old Lab that was sick the last two years of her life....it was hard to relax while away, but please do your best to have a great, relaxing trip.

So sad to hear it. We have a 14-year-old beagle, and our heart aches when we have to leave him.

Having a 14 yr. old cat, I can identify. But your baby will be staying at the vet's while you're gone. You can't ask for better care than that! Call in and check on him a few times, then have a good time on St. John. I'm sure everything will be ok, mon!

minnjim,
I am so sorry about your dog. I wish both of you the best of look with the upcoming tests.
On a brighter note...I'm not sure if you have flown Sun Country but they are the best. They have the best flight attendants, the HHH Terminal is so much nicer than the Lindbergh and best of all serve you a hot sandwich. We have flown them twice to St. Thomas and loved them.
They allow you to upgrade to First Class on the day of departure for like $100 each way. I looked at your outbound flight and there are only 3 seats. The flight doesn't look full though so maybe you can get a row to yourselves. The return flight looks packed and no First Class. If you have the opportunity to upgrade I would highly recommend it.
Have a great time!
