Next year hubby and I will be celebrating our 25h wedding anniversary and we want to take a special trip. Our dilemma - do we visit St. John again (our very favorite destination) or do we try a new location? I would just hate to be somewhere else thinking - "we should have gone to St. John!". Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

If it was me, for a really special day (like 25 years anniversary or a special birthday) I would like to something out of the normal. St John will still be there.
Personally I would like to go back to the south Pacific, and preferably to Cook Islands. Tahiti is too expensive and CI is much alike when it comes to nature and culture. Fiji is also nice.
Another option can be the Maldives, before it sinks

I know that is further from the US, than the South Pacific.

Congrats jdw! Our 25th anniversary is this year and we choose to go to St John. We'll be there next month. I can't think of any other place I'd rather be!
Next year I am thinking about trying another island but I wanted St John for this special anniversary because I KNEW it would be great.

My husband and I spent our honeymoon on St John in 1981, camping at Cinnamon Bay, and we have returned almost every January. For our 25th we wanted something extra special and stayed at Gibney Beach Cottage. We love St John, full of memories and new expeiences every time we visit. If you are already thinking of second guessing your decision to go somewhere else I would say choose St John.

I would go to St. John!
Seriously, for such a special anniversary, it might be nice to go somewhere familiar--you would not be wasting any time getting acclimated or figuring out where things are, etc., you could just slip right into your romantic routine.
But, where did you honeymoon? Maybe that would be worth revisiting?

Our 25th is next month and to celebrate we are taking a cruise to the Western Caribbean and went all out and got a balcony! As much as we love the Virgin Islands (we were just there 2 weeks ago) we thought a cruise would be special. Just my two cents!!!

We are celebrating our 25th anniversary in St John this May. We went to Acapulco for our honeymoon. I guess I can tell the story of the proposal. I only buy Cosmopolitan magazine in my birthday month. There was an article about how Jackie Kennedy had stayed at Las Brisas in Acapulco for her honeymoon. My boyfriend said how would you like to go there. Then he said as Mr and Mrs. We always thought we would go back for our 25th. We stopped in Acapulco on a cruise day and decided we were not impressed. We started looking for other places and St John won. I have been going to St John since the 70's. So I say go for St John. We chartered a sailboat for our 25th. Sailed the BVI's with a captain and a cook. The ultimate in luxury and relaxation. You can also visit STJ if you wish during a BVI sail trip. Good friends of ours were also celebrating their 25th so we chartered the boat with them, very expensive to do by yourself. We are returning to STJ this year though for our 30th, would love to do another charter but too many $$$ , renting a villa is so much more reasonable. Good Luck. A place we almost booked
www.stanielcay.com , in the bahamas, cute little cottages right on the water, restaurants, boats for rent. check it out. laurie

Our 20th is in a couple of years. Here's a few things that I'm considering - Alaska cruise, trip to Scandinavia, another VI crewed sailing charter (with Captain and Chef), a week at Peter Island Resort or a nice beach resort in Bermuda (Ariel Sands for example).
I know that none of them are St. John, but they will all be fabulous none the less.
If you think you might make a "mistake" and have regrets about not going to St. John, then perhaps that's what you should do. Rent a more upscale villa (or Caneel beachfront for a few days), get a private chef to cook a special meal on the "big" day, massages (if your hubby likes that sort of thing - mine doesn't), a private sunset sail - so many choices to make it special.
But, keep in mind it is you and your husband that make the day special, nothing else.
have fun!

Very different -- but an amazing, awe-inspiring trip is the Galapagos...... lots of out door activity, snorkeling if you pick the right cruise, animals..... I went in January, and as much as I LOVE STJ for vacation -- this was the most amazing trip -- beyond anything I could imagine....... PM me if you want any details

St. John, St. John, St. John! But seriously, only if it's the one place in the world where you'd always rather be. It is for us and we spent our 25th there almost one year ago to the day. My husband suprpised me with an anniversary ring on Maho at precisely the same time we'd said our vows 25 years ago and it was a moment, not to mention a trip, we'll never forget. Congrats, by the way!!

STJ or a sailing trip around the BVI. I would want to make sure everything was perfect beforehand, and having already visited, you know what's available and where things are.
Just my two cents.
