We have an hd camcorder..it is a Canon. It has the mini tapes, not the hard drive. I don't know what you want it for, but John has told me it is more difficult to get the tape stuff up on to youtube than the card? I am really not the tech person, as you can probably tell :?

I will say that the video we shot with this camera is really great...it is super wide screen. We have a movie theater screen that is, I think, 96", and this camera's footage fills up the screen without any distortion or stretching.

If this sounds like the kind of camera you want pm me and I will bug John for all the details.

PS: You hike first. Tell me all about it. 8)

Be careful with the Sony HD products. My understanding is that you have to use their software as it is not a standard HD format. Check your video editing software for supported systems. I have an SD Canon camera that works great for me with iMovie and iDVD.

Cheers, RickG

Is Tektite the same thing as Cabritte Point? Because we hiked to Tektite in October. The worst part of that walk is that the path is all rocks, so you have to be careful with your footing. In a couple of places, you have to scramble over rocks that are about seven feet high. There are good handholds but, again, you have to be careful.

The walk back was worse than the walk out, because we stayed out snorkeling for a couple of hours, so we were pretty tired. Here is a flat part of the trail, looking back towards Lameshur:

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/28539958@N00/1778557755/" title="tektite -hike- by liamsaunt, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2119/177 ... dcd1ee.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="tektite -hike-"></a>

The snorkelling was excellent, but I am not sure if I would hike out there again. I am very accident prone and was worried I was going to slip and hurt myself. If I could get someone to take us back via boat I would definitely do that.

Ah, you are right! I checked my copy of Off the Beaten Track last night and I guess the walk we did is called the "Tektite Shore Scramble."

I also read about the hike you are thinking of and I think it sounds a little challenging. Please report back if you go.
