Things that worked

Before I do a trip report, and while I'm adjusting to this cold weather, I thought that I'd mention a few things that really worked.

First the $20 AT&T phone ( Best Buy/Walmart ). We have T-Mobile service so I had no desire to roam while on St. John, or San Juan airport for that matter. After several AA flight delays, worth a trip report in itself, we ended up on the 8 Red Hook ferry instead of the 4 Red Hook ferry. I was able to coordinate with Windspree to confirm our arrival and they were able to pick up the keys to our Liberty from C&C. They had our car waiting at the dock.

Force fins. We've always been able to carry on our mask and snorkels but our previous fins were long. I picked up a pair of Force fins on ebay which packed easily. This way all of the critical items went with us as carry-ons.

Wife bent the frames on on her glasses to the extent that it was driving her crazy trying to see. Opticians next to Dolphin Market came through. How many islands with the beauty of St. John have an optician?

Crabby's. My Rx mask started a leak that was a real pain. Crabby had a prescription mask that fit the bill and rescued our trip.

How timely! I was going to start a topic on which fins to buy today. Maybe now I don't have to. Thanks.

Great to hear about the optician! I am blind without my glasses and I always worry about what if something happened while on vacation!!! I have used prescription snorkel masks and they are amazing!!

Roberto, Thank you for the great info on the phone and fins. I will put those two tips to use in June!

For those of us with cell services that aren't great on St. John (I have Verizon), the AT&T sounds like a good solution.

I'm also "fin" shopping; I'll have to take a look at yours.

Looking forward to the rest of the story.

Force fins have a simple strap arrangement for fitting. Much easier than our previous fins for putting on. Also better for entering the water since they're shorter. Nobody looks good entering from the shore. You just look less stupid.

I was wonder if you could tell me if Crabby's rents prescription masks??? We are traveling in April with another couple who has never snorkeled before. They both wear glasses but don't want to spend $$$ on buying masks until they try it first.

XOXO

Crabby's rents Rx masks. That's what I did. He had -2.5 and -2.0. $7 a day. I suspect that someone in Cruz Bay rents them also.I'd definitely call ahead to check.

First time that we snorkeled in the Florida Keys we rented prescriptions masks which is why I was hoping that Crabby had them.

A few years back, Hubs lost his glasses while swimming in Gulf. He did find them (amazing) and ever since, he travels with a spare set.
