DH and I are traveling to STJ in early August for our 10th anniversary. I've narrowed our choices down to these (But I need your help to decide)
Seawatch
Paloma Blanca
Villa Capiz
Sago Palms
Splendore
Dreams Come True
Virgin Seabreeze
My main concerns are
Beautiful view
A/C that is in good condition
PRivacy from neighbors
Usable pool (if the position of the pool will prevent it from really warming up during the day, that is an important factor for me)
Comfort of bed (I have a bad back and am a little worried about getting there to a rock hard bed)
Any knowledge on any of these villas would be EXTREMELY appreciated!

While I have not stayed at any of these, I know that Marybeth stayed at Villa Capiz and I believe someone else here stayed at Sago Palms.
I am confident that you will get some great responses and enjoy STJ!

I forgot, the views I was talking about, I'm especially interested in how they are from the pool, hot tub, and from bed

my review of Villa Capiz is here

My husband and I stayed there in Nov 2007. Bottom line was we enjoyed it very much and we would return there some day. But there are some things about it that may not fit your criteria. AC in the master was an issue for us so you may want to check on that if you are interested in this property.
I have tons of photos if you are interested. Drop me an email anytime.

Our family stayed at Paloma Blanca @ 5-6 years ago.
Ten things I can think of about Plaoma Blanca...
1. Very private (there is one neighbor but the trees blocked them out).
2. Very quiet except for roosters crowing in the AM (didn't bother hubby and I but bothered mom-in-law).
3. I'm pretty sure there was AC all over.
4. Pool & Hottub (I'm pretty sure unobstructed views from the pool).
5. Strong sun & amazing sunset in afternoons.
6. Unending amazingly beautiful views: sunsets, rainbows, twinkling lights of St Thomas... we ate every meal outside.
7. Hubby and I stayed in the in-law apartment downstairs and so had extra extra privacy with our own TV & kitchen.
8. Beautiful landscaping.
9. Recently updated all furniture in the last year.
10. The road to get to Paloma Blanca is a little bit of an adventure but all part of the charm of STJ!!

We stayed at Villa Capiz May of 2007.
The views are definitely awesome up there.
The pool is wonderful and spacious. The hot tub was nice too.
The A/C worked well while we were there, but I know MB had an issue so you'd want to check and see if it's been repaired.
If you open the sliding doors to the lower level bedrooms and showers the views are also good from there.
We enjoyed our stay there a great deal.

You have good taste in villas. We have stayed at Paloma Blanca, Villa Capiz and Sago Palms.
We were at Paloma Blanca in May 2005. At that time there was AC in the bedrooms only and it worked fine. This was our first stay on Gifft Hill and the view from the villa took our breath away. It was very private and we were OK with the road. It was very bumpy and we felt like we were on a safari going in, but it is flat. We found the villa quite comfortable and we enjoyed it.
We next stayed at Capiz in May 07. The view is great there as well. We thought that it was a lovely villa, although it took a bit of getting used to the two levels and outside only entrances. We also found the AC in the master bedroom was lacking.
We were at Sago Palms in Nov 07. We thought that the villa was spectacular, particularly for the price, although I see it is increasing again. This was our first stay on the north side and while the views during the day were beautiful, we discovered that we prefer to see the twinkling lights of St Thomas at night. To each his own.

We were told that the weather had cooled the week we arrived. We found that the pool was a little too cool for us to use (yes I'm a wuss). I would think that in August it wouldn't be an issue. It was completely private except for the villa being constructed next door, but apparently that has been going on and off again for quite some time. The workers showed up one and a half of the days that we were there and were not loud. The on and off construction has been the norm, I'm told. The hot tub was great.
We would stay at any one of these villas again.

Not too far north of Capiz, off Gifft Hill road. I don't know if the road has a name, but going north it is on the right across from the dumpsters, which are next to Coconuts
