Has anyone been there? John's going next month and if I want I can fly over for a short trip tacked on to the end of his business stuff--say three full days (plus 2 travel days). I can't decide whether to go--it's going to take me about 10 hours to get there, and to be honest I know very little about Portugal. We'd be in Lisbon.

Knowing your affinity for wine, I'd go!

I have been in Portugal twice, the first time we were in Lissabon, and the next time we were by the coast.

Portugal is a nice country with nice people and I like their kitchen - especially good fish dishes and good bread. There is a lot to see both interesting buildings and interesting nature. I would definitely recommend a visit.

But I had to admit that I personally wouldn’t travel in 2 days only to have 3 days stay in February.

Yup, that is what I am thinking. But, I did this same kind of setup last year to go to Paris and we had a great time and saw (and ate!) a ton of stuff. I don't know why I am not excited about this opportunity. Maybe I'll change my mind.

Liamsaunt - Don't you think that Paris has a bigger "must see-factor" than Lisbon?

Even if I haven't been to Lisbon, I do think that Paris is a place, that will be on almost everyones list.

I do agree with the others, three days might be too short. On the other hand, people tell us that only one week in Thailand is crazy as well

Your ability to adjust to jetlag, could be the answer to you.

I think you should go. I've heard good things about Portugal. Life is short, take advantage of the opportunity.

Liamsaunt - what did you finally decide? I'm guessing since February is almost over that you opted out of going?

I decided not to go. John actually has not left yet--he goes next Sunday for a week. I don't know, I just could not get excited about it. We've got St. John coming up in two months and I am already looking towards that trip. Plus, to be completely honest, I am hoping to glom on to another destination--there's a potential for Ireland, plus Germany, coming up. Both of those interest me more, and I can't go along every time.

OMG Liamsaunt, if my husband traveled to different countries...well, we'd be in trouble cuz that could become a job in itself for me  The explorer in me would want to go everywhere! Of course the funding on my part would be slim

I see you mentioned Ireland...if you've never been you MUST try for that opportunity. Absolutely beautiful and sooo green. I've only been once but I have vowed to return someday. Now if I win the lottery I'll be heading out on a whirlwind world tour :D

Take care,
Kathy
