Less than 36 hours after landing I come down with a kick-ass flu. High fever, chills, lost 10lbs  , missed two Christmas parties. One was even for my staff  I can't even think of all that I've missed getting done for Christmas the past 3 days, ugh!

The flu is no fun at any time, but after spending 9 days in paradise it REALLY sucks. And everyone around here is ragging on me cause they think I deserve it after having such a good vacation

Okay I feel better now............thank you for letting me vent.....wah, wah, wah

P.S. I am on the mends...........yipee!

Its not dengue fever is it! Am I crazy or did I hear someone say they actually got it after visiting STJ.

I promise I am not trying to keep people away, ok maybe I am :)

I'll take the 10 lb weight loss though!

Jan I feel bad for you 'cause I've had a nasty cold for over a week now. Feel like $hit. I haven't lost any weight, though!

I feel for you kiddo. Two days after returning from STJ in June I came down with a flu-like thing that turned into double pneumonia. I was sick for 4 weeks. (I sat in front someone who coughed from San Juan to Chicago.) My husband came down with the same respiratory virus but his stopped at acute bronchitis.

Flying these days is dangerous to your health. Look at it this way (I did). You've probably been wanting to drop 10 pounds anyway. Not a fun way to do it but quick. Feel better soon.

That's a bummer - but glad you're on the mend.

Just think of all the extra egg-nog and cookies you can enjoy trying to get that 10 lbs back :)

Hey Flip, I looked up dengue at some point yesterday, but my fever had already begun to settle down. Am pretty sure that's not it.

Diana............I'm with ya on this travelling thing. There was a guy 2 rows in front of us from ATL to DC that coughed and sneezed (nastily) the whole trip. The guy beside him got up immediatley and moved to the back of the plane, smart man!

The weight loss IS a blessing (hee hee), but it will ALL be back, plus some by the New Year.....oh well!

CalifGirl..............please FEEL BETTER!

I feel your pain. I've been sick ever since I got back from Florida. I swear I am allergic to that state! I get sick every time I go there. I am looking forward to the holiday break to catch up on some rest!

Hi Guys,

I got the "cold", too, after returning. (and now DH has it.) I'm not sure what it is -- is it the shock of returning to reality after vacation? is it the change in weather? Is it something about Cyril E King??

Everybody stay warm and get healthy -- your next visit is coming. It's only a few dreams away.

Count your blessings, at least you didn't get sick while you were in STJ  :D

A few years ago I got a horrible sinus infection while we were there...I spent three days in bed!! It was absolutely horrible. And the bedroom was on a lower level so I didn't even have a view to enjoy...no TV either so I had nothing to distract me. I was miserable.

I hope you feel better soon!

I made my family take Airborne when we started our (10 hour) flight to Maui last year. (We still all had colds for the first few days.) Unfortunately the kids hate the flavor, so I don't know what else to do for prevention for them, except keep feeding them healthy foods and insist they wash their hands.

Flying with people who are sick is almost as bad as spending time in the classroom. Even in 4th and 5th grade some kids can't keep their hands out of their mouths. (Or noses... ewwww.) I'm always thinking "Please don't touch anything my kids will touch!" And I'm only a 'room mom' and Sunday School helper. I can only imagine what the full time teachers see!

Get well soon!
Everyone is sick here at work and I am just hoping I don't catch it for Christmas!

Chicagoans - There's an Airborne for Kids - I think it is grape or cherry flavored. Saw it in Walmart when picking some up for my mom-in-law.

Thank you jayseadee! I will definitely look for that to try to ward off someof the ickiness of winter flights!

The same thing happened to me when I returned from SOTB, I started with the fever 36-40 hours after I arrived home, no cold symptoms, just fever, chills, sweating, my fever was between 101 and 103 for 4 days, then loomed around 99-100 for 2 more. I lost 10 pounds too :) the only plus to the illness! I too thought it was Dengue, but my doctor thought it was just a viral flu  But I have one bite that took 4 weeks to heal it was on a mole, hmmmm? It took me a couple of weeks to feel back to normal :?

Viral / flu cure that works every time (for me anyways)....
Get some powdered chili pepper. make up a batch of home-made chicken soup. Add the chili powder to your bowl of soup until the liquid turns redish, or until it's so hot that it makes your lips burn to eat it. Then add a little more. After you finish the bowl of soup, the sweat should start poping out everywhere. Go to bed, wrap up in a warm blanket and sweat like a pig. In the morning, you should feel a whole lot better. The chili pepper is very high in anti-oxidants and I think the heat incinerates the nasty virus. Good Luck! Jenrale
