My first cookies of the season today. These are my walnut cups. A major PITA to make but so good and a big hit in my family!

Jamestown, those look good. I don't make them but I know plenty of people who do. I always just eat the kiss and leave the cookie behind ;)

Jamestown, those are my favorites!

MaryBeth, we should eat cookies together. I always pick off the kiss and eat the cookie!

I don't bake, but my sister does, and she goes nuts with cookies for the holidays. This year she is going super nuts because she is baking for her husband's entire unit--they'll get there after Christmas but better late than never. Her cookies are famous over there. She makes over 20 different kinds! I'll post a picture of my share of the sugary decadence when she brings them to my house.

That used to be me when I was younger and much more energetic! I used to say "I was baking my Christmas A$$ off". I would bake for hours until I literally couldn't walk. What I didn't know was that it was the pre cursor to my back troubles! Now I can only handle a batch at a time. Well more like a batch a day! LOL
So I pick and choose those old family favorites.

Next up for me are Russian Tea Balls.

Becky, is your brother in law deployed? I just re-read what you said and I'm thinking "over there" means Iraq or some other such place. That must be rough with those 2 little ones.
All the best for your family this holiday season and in 2008.

My mother-in-law is cookie nut, and of course, gave me all of Don's favorite recipes (which is all of them).

For our first Christmas, I baked my little cookie butt off - was a big hit!! "Glad you liked 'em dear, but you'll never see them again"!! and he hasn't.

I do Pizzeles and Baklave - will post if I get to it this weekend.

I also re-read Becky's email - at first I thought "unit" was the in-law unit - but certainly sounds as though there a service man in the family. Will think safe thoughts for you and your family.

He says thanks! Not a great shot of the shirt, but that is it I promise. It was one of the first things I packed for him. 4 months in advance :)

Mary Beth! I swear we are cookie twins! Russian tea balls are my other favorite! Those are a special favorite with everyone in my family. If you want any, you have to squirrel them away someplace or they will get eaten by the invisible cookie monster!

Yes, my brother in law is deployed. He is a captain in the army--they shipped out for their second year-long tour in Iraq while we had the kids at Disney. He also did a year in Korea. I am not going to comment on the war in general or his choice to join the army in particular, but thanks for your good wishes. I would definitely like to see him back home in one piece. The kids miss him dearly.

Does anyone else go to a cookie exchange? The one I go to every year is this weekend and though they are SO dangerous, it's also SO great to come home with 15 different kinds of cookies. YUM! And my office loves me on Monday. :)

My contribution is Snickerdoodles and Pumkin Oatmeal. I'll take pictures for cookie porn. :)
