Any posters here who can answer ownership on STJ questions?

Hi everyone,
It's long been a dream of ours to own a small home in the Caribbean. We adore St. John but realize that real estate is very expensive. I'm not a fool - I've read the Bongo Bongo blog and Don't Stop the Carnival. I've spent several months of my life in the Carribean, so I realize the pitfalls, the drawbacks and the problems. I'm a real estate attorney so I like to think that I somewhat know what to do when it comes to investing.
We're still young (early 30s) but are thinking of investing in a small lot on St. John in the next couple of years. We wouldn't build for a while (5-10 years out), but would want to buy the lot while we are younger so we could pay it off before building commences.
Is there anyone here who owns property on STJ would could PM me about this topic? I don't want to start a big discussion about anything, I just want to ask some basic questions to get us pointed in the right direction. Thanks!
