We shopped at Freebird on both trips to STJ. I love their jewelry, especially their laramar pieces. Laramar is mined in the Caribbean. Some pieces look like the water at Trunk with the sun shining on it - really beautiful stone. I was looking for laramar set in yellow gold (instead of silver) and found it at Freebird. Bought necklace last year, and earrings this year. My husband bought some chunks of laramar for his mineral collection. The owner was very nice and brought out an album with pictures of the mine, and boxes of the chunks not made up into jewelry yet. I also saw a small gold starfish (for a necklace) and it reminded me of starfish at waterlemon, so I had to have it. He was interesting to talk to. Check out the store on your next trip.

Nice store. My wife bought some larimar jewelry there and I think we bought our oval STJ sticker there.

But what I really want to ask is, "What song is it you want to hear??"

I can recall back in the vinyl days hearing that song being played on the radio and the record skipped right during one of those never ending solos, repeating it over and over. It took me awhile for me to even realize it was skipping and took the DJ even longer to bump the needle.

Ah, the era of the extended jam..makes me want to shout out "Whipping Post!"

I went to see Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young in Tampa Stadium in 1974.

There was a guy wearing overalls that stood and swayed for the whole four hours of their set, and between every song, would continually shout "Whipping Post". Fortunately, he was at the opposite end of the stadium from the band.

Oh yeah - I saw Frank Zappa in 1978 and, I suppose as a sarcastic response to seeing/hearing so many incidents like the one above, they actually covered Whipping Post in their set.

First, did the guy realize he was at a CSN&Y show and not an Allman Bros show?

Secondly, CSN&Y had enough material to play a 4-hour set?

Augie - speaking of "live records", the live CSNY album "Four Way Street" was a fav of mine from that era. Then I got it on CD a few years ago, and man, for some reason, that didnt age too well for me.

On the other hand, I recently cranked up The Who "Live at Leeds" and holy smokes, no wonder I've always seen it included on "Best Live Records of All Time" kind of lists. One of the best live bands ever.

jmq - I know what you mean. Four Way Street is still worth having if only for that live version of Southern Man, but I find that a lot of "records" (and movies also) that I loved in my youth, seem pretty lame now.

Fortunately, not all of them!

Ahhhh.... Freebird, The Redneck National Anthem! Wouldn't break my heart to never hear it again!
