The last photo in TR part 2 should have been this. A bird has found our "water tank ".

Lunch was normally cold meat and salad. Sometimes we dined out on the game drive and sometimes we went home to the camp.

<a href="http://picasaweb.google.dk/benthe44/Saf ... 0002"><img src="http://lh5.google.dk/benthe44/RzxGjn3-l ... 7.JPG"></a>

In the evening we always had a fantastic dinner. What they were able to make over a fire was so impressive. In part of the trip our cook was Philemon, a funny guy who always had stories to tell. His helper was old John. He didn't say so much, perhaps because he didn't have so many teeth left.

After the dinner we sat about the fire and "socialised ", not so much talking, tired after a whole day being out from early morning.

</a><img src="http://lh6.google.dk/benthe44/RzxE-33-l ... 6.JPG"></a>

Always eraly to bed. I slept like a baby, even though it was very cold, and I had to have some extra cloth on, and even though the beds were not too comfortable. One night some were scared because they could hear an elephant near the camp, and another night there was a hyena that stole some butter, but I didn't hear anything. Hb couldn't believe it. Normally I wake up if I hear any noise. Must be the air in Africa! Or perhaps the red wine to the dinner!

In Savuti we had a climb up to a cliff where there were some drawings, which should be more than 4000 years old.

Okay, enough for this time. In the next report I will tell about my birthday together with the elephants!

Wow, Linne, you got some amazing lion shots. How close did your vehicle get to them?

The lizard with the curled tail is so cute too.

Linne - I'm completely loving your trip report! I want to know the same thing as liamsaunt... how close did you get to the lions? Did you use a telephoto lens or were you THAT close? I love the picture of the smiling lioness! What a shot! Can't wait for your next installment! :D

Thank you for the nice word, I also love these lion pics. But I have to admit that I’m not the photographer in the family. It’s my husband. And yes, some of the pics are taken with a telephoto lens, but you cannot imagine how close we were to the lions. One of them (the cute one) was not more than about 3 m away (about 9,8 feet) for a while. The other were perhaps 10 m away. We were always in the jeep, and the guide said that we shouldn’t be afraid because a lion would never attack a jeep – consider a jeep as a big animal – and he had a rifle with him. Sometimes I looked at them with my binoculars, but it was nearly frightening, when I saw the closest lion, it was as if he was standing just beside me, I could see every movement in his eyes. A fascinating experience.

Did you see the lion picture in part two with the couple who was making love? We were also very close to them.

10m is pretty close to a wild lion! I thought that picture of the lovemaking lions was great! Loud, too, I imagine!

Thank you, Linne for your wonderful reports. I too would love to do a safari, but this will suffice for now. :)
