This is a good site. I'm signed up to get email notices of all condo/home listings, just in case I win the lottery.

 Thanks!

So many businesses for sale! Is that an indicator of how difficult it is to make a living on STJ?

California Girl - I wondered the same thing. I don't doubt that it is not easy to run a business on the island. Did you see the thread over at On-St.John about the book store for sale. Someone likened it to paying $160,000 for a low paying job.

All businesses are for sale. It's just a matter of how much.

Being willing to entertain an offer for your business is one thing, but listing it is something else.

Very interesting! I'd love to own either Baked in the Sun or Cafe Roma. It's the being able to afford to live there that stops me for sure!

I remember when I lived on island, so many business owners would tell me they were getting tired of having to work 7 days a week. It was also so hard to find good help as my friend put it
'someone who shows up clean, sober and actually wants to work'...........I thought it funny but then realized how true it could be.
What is that bar/restaurant for sale? I can not place it. I was thinking is it Pollies? It looks like it is on the first floor. I was thinking the old Duffy's but do not remember it having an outside to eat or drink

Yes--the old Duffy's is for sale. Pretty cheap too---$200,000. I had heard it sold for quite a bit more than that when Duffy's sold to Lizard's Landing a couple of years back. I suspect it got some pretty hard use. I would love for someone to open a fun bar or restaurant in that spot. Anyone on the Forum interested in a project?

Actually, that was my comment. I looked at the numbers that were available and it just didn't make sense. Someone even looked at the numbers closer and came up with less than I did.
It is definitely a two income job and the second income would have to come from somewhere else. I believe the income for the year was 30K.
Not a good investment to me for that business.

Hey Guy's, don't forget when you win the lottery and decide to make the move (or if you just want to invest here) to please come see me and hubby for all your Real Estate needs - we are Realtors on STJ
Also, if you would like to receive a weekly e-mail of all new listings that are available (like pjayer has done) I can do that for you as well

Promoguy - I looked at the numbers too (just out of curiosity) and share your observation.
Pia - My husband's fanasty is that he will win one of the mega-jackpots, fly me to St. John, pull into the drive way of my St. John dream house and tell me "Baby, it is yours." Some fantasy!. I will tell him to call you first on the off chance this ever happens!
