A Newbie Meets STJ - Day Six

We woke up on day 6 still commenting about day 5. We didn't really have any specific plans for the day, but knew we wanted to try out another new beach and possibly go in a different direction than we'd been heading up until then. We got in the car and tried to remember the directions the kind manager at the Donkey Diner gave us to Vie's beach. It went something like this: keep going on this road up and down, turning and twisting (he did a lot of motioning), there will be boulders, beach on the right, yadda yadda. How hard could it be, right? Off we went.
We watched the odometer, because we thought he said it was about a mile from the Donkey Diner. We did have rum punch, so we certainly could have heard incorrectly! It got to the mile point and we were up a hill. Then we were down a scary hill and saw beach to the right. We kept going and going, past Vie's snack shack. Hubby thought it would be good to keep going and see what we could find. At first I agreed, but I was on the side of the truck where the sun was shining, and it was getting freakin' hot! I requested a turnaround and to go to the parking area we saw by the snack shack. Hubby complied. Smart man.
At first I couldn't tell where the beach was, but assumed we paid at the snack shack. I was sooo hot by that point. I'm impressed that Vie didn't roll her eyes when I greeted her, and then asked if the beach across the street was Vie's beach (I saw the signs after I asked, of course). Freakin' newbie! Then I asked if she was Vie, and chatted for a minute with her. She's a very nice woman. We paid for two for the beach and I got a bottle of ice cold water. Did I mention I was !@#$ hot? We walked through the gate and to the beach. The shady spots were mostly taken at that point, but there was some shade by the entrance so we put our crap there. Some guy said, "Nice day, isn't it?", and we agreed. I looked at the water, and a big dude with red hair was telling me that once you got past the rocks it was heaven. Hey... wait a minute. How many big dudes with red hair were allowed on the island at one time? (hee hee, sorry Big Red... couldn't resist!) I looked back at the fellow that greeted us and saw he looked a bit like an avatar I'd seen before. I put two and two together, and for once got four! "Hey! Are you Rick?". Sure enough! We managed to meet some forumers after all. Awesome.
We all chatted away and did some snorkeling. I really enjoyed meeting them all. I thought they all were a lot of fun and only wished I would have met them earlier! Mr and Mrs B also showed up later on, and we got to chat with them a bit, as well. It was fun just floating and talking and laughing with everyone. Good times. I liked Vie's beach. The snorkeling was pretty ok to the left, and apparently to the right it was about the same. We saw a barracuda and a bunch of bait fish. We stayed there for several hours - me in the water 90% of the time, as usual. We decided to leave and get cleaned up to go into Cruz Bay to see Meghan at the Tap Room. We wished everyone well and made our getaway. By the time we got back to the villa I was plumb tuckered out. We took our showers and I was still totally exhausted. We decided to skip Cruz Bay and check out Island Blues for dinner instead. I got a Philly Cheesesteak and I can't remember what hubby got. The food was pretty big in portions, though, and the drinks were strong. The waitress was very sweet. Loved the view, too. After we were done eating, we went home and digested and went to bed. Another great day in paradise.
SUMMARY: Rick & friends are crazy fun, Vie's beach is worth the money IMO, Island Blues gets a thumb's up.
