I know all airlines have there little problems, but how does Delta measure up????Being Late, missed connections???????
Since we mostly fly out of Canada (Toronto is the worst airport), I am not that familiar with the US airlines. We flew Spirit last time & they were great, we also flew Airtran to Florida & again they were great.
Had an unbeleiveable flight out of Detroit, but didn't jump in time

so now thinking of going out of Buffalo, half the drive there & back.
Any infor appreciated.
Thanks

I fly alot with Delta as they are where my frequent flier miles live. I allow a lot of time for layovers, especially if going through Atlanta. I don't think you'll find them any worse than other US airlines, but do give yourself a buffer if you have a connection.

1 hour 15 minutes should be ok. If I have a choice I try to allow about 2. No less than 1 hour though, ever! Atlanta is hell!

I've flown Delta enough this year to reach gold status. I may make platinum before the end of the year.

I agree with FF, they are no worse than any of the others.

Since they opened the 5th runway in ATL last year, things run much smoother even during IR-OPS (irregular operations). (If someone wants to know who is the worst, you'll have to PM me.)
I can normally do very well in ATL with a one hour layover. 1:30 is better. The trains connecting the concourses work fairly well in ATL. It's the long walk from the train station at the center to gate 1 or 36 that is the killer.

I prefer to get off one plane and get on another right away because I am not a big fan of hanging out in airports. I wish I could be on "Island Time" every week.
Baggage service has been a chronic complaint with Delta. Every airline has some sort of nickname based on their real name. Some say that D-E-L-T-A stands for Don't Expect Luggage To Arrive.

The longer your layover in ATL the higher the probability is that you will see your luggage.
Have a great trip

I like flying on Delta, although most of my flights on their airline have not gone off on time (trips flying out of BNA, ATL and LAX have been delayed). On my trip to STT in October, my flight out of Nashville was a few minutes late and that freaked me out because I had an hour and four minutes to change planes in Atlanta. One time flying from LAX to Columbus, Ohio we were delayed in L.A. for over an hour and even with our plane catching a tailwind I had 15 minutes to change planes which is almost impossible in Atlanta. Still, I've always gotten my luggage (knocking on wood right now) and I've made it there in once piece. Their snacks aren't great, but whose are. The flight attendants are really nice.
NEVER, EVER give yourself less than one hour for a connection in Atlanta. You will not make it. As it was, I had to run like a mother on my trip a few months ago, and by the time I landed I still had 54 minutes. I got there just in time to board.

ts3-I don't know if you have access to USAir in Canada or one of the adjoining airports, but they have direct flights to STT from Philadelphia and Charlotte. They may also have direct flights from one of the NYC airports, but I am not familiar with them. We took the flight from Charlotte last July and found the Charlotte airport to be easy to negotiate and the flights to be relatively on time.
Others may not like USAir from other parts of the Country, but through Charlotte they seem to do fairly well. I watched their flights on FlightAware.com for 6-8 weeks before we left and while there was one Saturday they ran 2-3 hours late all the rest seemed to be within 30 minutes of the scheduled departure and many times they made that time up in the air so they arrived in STT fairly close to schedule.

We flew Delta back in June. No problems at all, except for the flight from Atlanta to IAD which was delayed over 2 hrs due to a thunder storm. Not the fault of Delta. Only complaint = no food or snacks served so bring your own!

OK,
You are all scarring me

We would only have just over an hour going & an hour & a half coming back.
The first time we flew to St John, I am pretty sure that we made a change in Atlanta with a very limited time, like 30 min & we made as well as our luggage. I remember running like the dickens.......
Would we have to change terminals???? Is this what requires the extra time????
Thanks The Shopper

Yeah, it's changing terminals in Atlanta that seems tricky. This past trip, I landed in C and had to get to A. I had to go down into the basement of the airport and get a little train and then go back upstairs. The train does make it easier and a little quicker. As long as you have an hour you should be fine, but I've had lots of trouble with my flight getting delayed. On my last trip, both my plane to ATL and my plane to STT were late, but I still got to STT about 20 minutes late and all my luggage arrived pretty quickly after that.
The ATL-STT flight seems relatively uneventful, and we did get back on time. (Well, to ATL, where I had a 45-minute delay before getting to Nashville.)
