HELP with tickets from Nashville!

I received so much advice with getting tickets from DC that I thought I would ask for help in behalf of my brother in law who will be flying out of Nasville. I found some decent fares $346-but these are 18 hour flights

We are getting too old to be sitting in airports for hours on end just to save a couple of hundred bucks! We want to just GET there

The 8-9 hour flights were running about 560 with taxes and other fees. Any Nashville travelers have any experience and could give us some advice? Thanks in advance-Jen

I have not had experience from Nashville, but just north of there in Kentucky. Our lowest rates from Lexington start from 523. Most are around 600.pp. Cincy is a little lower at 500.pp on Delta. Hopefully you can find something lower from Nashville, but I don't think 560. sounds bad from this area. Good Luck!

It appears that some "Midwest" cities are never on sale
I have heard that Nashville is expensive as is (my old hometown) Kansas City - personally I have found that airfare from KC is normally in the $500+ range but very occasionally I can find it "on sale" but I have to be flexible with dates and check the travel websites multiple times (5 or more) times per day.
Personally I would pay the $200 more just to knock off the extra 10 hours - no way would I (personally) do that

I flew from Nashville a few weeks ago, bought my ticket exactly a month before and it was $404. For weekend travel, with one 45 minute layover in Atlanta. Personally, I think that you should be able to find flights for less than $500 from Nashville. True, some of the itineraries leave a bit to be desired (like a 9-hour layover in Miami) but there are good flights out there for good prices.
What are your travel dates? I can help you look and see if I can come up with some pointers for you.
If worse came to worst and he wanted to drive to Atlanta and fly from there (about a 4 1/2 hour drive), I have seen flights from there for $200/rt.

Jen,
I don't know what time of year you are looking at, but Expedia includes Cape Air flights which made it less when I searched using our dates. We have our tickets, but I have been searching for our friends and wonder if they would be willing to drive to Nashville. The times weren't bad either (about 9 hours).

I had a friend who used to be a booking agent at American Airlines. She told me the best rates are often between 60 and 28 days out. I got my ticket 30 days out, but I watched cheaptickets.com like it was my JOB. (Much to the chagrin of my coworkers, I'm sure...)
