We always read the forum but usually post just before we go. Just busy and preoccupied. This is our 7th time to St.John and our kid's 5th time. Saw an earlier post about crying when you leave. It is like a waterfall every time for our kids (now aged 10 and 7). If I knew how to post pictures I would post a picture of the saddest two kids in the world I took a couple of years ago.
We are leaving Thanksgiving day this time so I know the comments from them about a "the most horrible Thanksgiving EVER" will be coming.
We have always gone in July.
2 questions: anything different in the fall?
Second question-We are at Serenity villa in Maria Bluff-anyone know about that? We reserved it late, there weren't a lot of choices, but it looks pretty nice. (there is another villa named Villa Serenity somewhere else)
OK- these aren't the best questions. BUT I am SO excited now I can't stand it!!!!!
We stayed at Splash villa last time. Nothing will ever beat that for the kids (pool inside the house) but I know we'll still have a great time!
No one ever talks about SOGO on the forum. Have any of you been there? We love it!

I can't help you with villa questions, but regarding "the most horrible Thanksgiving ever", why don't you just do Thanksgiving a day early? Have a big feast of some sort at the villa, or see what the various restaurants are offering up as fall fare. It really could be the BEST Thanksgiving ever

Every other year, we take my grown children (35 & 33, 32 and 27 over the holiday/Christmas week...this will be the first year for my daughter's husband... About mid week...there is always the conversation about staying longer -- although I have planned the dates around their requests to be home for NY eve...so we check and find out that either the house is rented or we can't change our airline tickets... they are old enough that there are no tears but always a sigh or two as we face a return to reality--- and pleasure in knowing that we will be back in 2 years....... we have even found the definitive villa until there are grandbabies (Jazz Villa)..... there never is the discussion about going some where else..... for "home" for vacation is STJ!
We'll be staying at the Westin 12/13-21(we have a time share but it isn't finished so will be at the hotel) and Jazz Villa 12/21 - 29.
Any one on the forum coming into Jazz when we leave???

You will find it a bit less humid and cooler in November than July. And, it will be a lot busier, especially during Thanksgiving week. We've always traveled in early November and noticed a big increase in people last year over earlier years.
What is SOGO?
enjoy your trip and just be sure to bring lots of kleenex for your kids.

SOGO is this tiny little local-run restaurant with West Indian dishes. We just fell in love with it because we got sick of junk food. With the kids we will go to a place like Rhumb Lines once or twice-there isn't much that we have found in between the Beach Bar, burgers and that.
Anyways, the part I really like is they have vegetables! You can get an entree with veggies on the side and they give you like 4 or 5 small veggie portions- fungi(made from cornmeal),broccoli, carrots, plantains...you can also get a veggie plate. I think I will get that next time. I always get the roti, which is like a wrap filled with curried potatoes. My kids love the ribs.
The food isn't gourmet-very basic but good flavors, etc..Prices are OK.
The owners are really nice if you strike up a conversation with them. It is a tiny little place, pretty much no atmosphere at all, a hole in the wall, but for some reason it is now an absolute "must" when we go to St. John.
It is across from the Lime Inn and the Pink Papaya.
