If you are heading to the VI's and it's winter in your city what do you do when you are traveling? Do you bundle up and take your coat/mittens, etc. or do you rough it and freeze your A$$ off???

I would bundle up! I would then pack shorts, t shirt and sandals in my carry on and change when I get to the warmer climate. It's nice to have your warm clothes on the return trip too.

I thought I put a poll on here! LOL guess I don't know how to do that.

Anyway, I think I'm roughing it. I can't imagine looking at a COAT for the entire time I'm on STJ!!!!! I want to leave it all behind

When one of the girls left her house for our trip, it was snowing. She wore sweats and a jacket over her shorts and t-shirt and changed on the plane.

Are there rental lockers in the airport that you're flying out of?

Or did those all go away after 9/11?

I don't know what guys can do, but I have found the best solution for me to be roll up cargo-pants, a tank top with a sweater over it, tennis shoes and flip flops in my bag. At the end of my flight, the cargos roll up into capri pants, the sweater comes off and gets stuffed in the carry-on, and the tennis shoes get replaced with the flip flops. I leave the jacket in the car and suffer....but I have the advantage of being able to leave from a very small airport, so the walk from parking to front door is 5 minutes tops.

I rough it. I plan to be dropped off at the door to the airport (we settled on Fairfax Yellow Cab with a request for a minivan). The kids will be sort of bundled (sweats for the girl & one of those drop them in and zip it up things for the baby boy). I wear flip-flops, I don't care if its snowing, and pants that are long but can be rolled up.

I always have a wrap or sweater for the plane because I always get cold.

I wear jeans, knee -length woolen socks, moccasin type shoes, layer on a tank top, a tee and a turtle neck. My coat is a Northface fleece and shell.

Soon as I get to JFK the jacket, turtle neck, socks come off and get stuffed into a side pocked on the suitcase.

I carry a short sarong-style skirt and flip flops. At STT I duck into the ladies, wrap my skirt around my waist and get rid of the jeans, take off the tee and have just my tank. Apply flip flops once all the luggage is in the car. Quick and painless!

I wouldn't even take all that outer wear if I could count on the hired pick-up car being there when we come back at JFK. Those morons kept us waiting 2 hours one very miserably cold day *outside* ("We're coming, wait on the traffic island for us.") I also have gloves and a cold-weather hat for this sad part of the trip.

I can still remember the 1st year to St John. 19 in Syracuse and 89 on St. John. We did not change until we got the the airport on STT. It felt realy HOT !!! I didn't bring a jacket thought ... just ran from the car to the airport and then had a light sweater for the plane.

I did make sure that they brought our coats when they picked us up ... it feels mighty cold when you are returning from the 80's to the 30's or 40's.

Not sure about my shoes this year ??? Last year I wore my crocs ... they were easy to slip out of and confy to walk in through the airport.

Only a few more weeks ... can hardly wait !!!

Now that I have a child I feel like I need to be more prepared. I always have constant “what ifs” in my head – what if our flight is re-routed and I need to be outside in the snow, freezing rain, etc. Also, I seem to be affected by the airport and plane AC more than I used to be.

I wear lightweight pants, close toed shoes (usually sneakers) and a light weight sweater/fleece over a t-shirt. (I do not take a coat.) I take not just one but two (told you I was paranoid/prepared) full changes of clothes in my carry-on. I change on the plane during a visit to the bathroom.

The boy is dressed similarly but with his winter coat, hat and mittens and his carry-on is also packed with spare warm weather sets. Being that we usually need one diaper change enroute, I typically change his clothes at that time.

The hubs? He will go in shorts and a tee shirt in zero degrees just because he insists on starting vacation asap and somehow feels long pants will delay his enjoyment somehow

I wear shorts/tank and put sweat pants and a sweat shirt over top. Not nearly enough for a cold PA winter but I will not wear anything more! As we are making our decent into STT my sweats come off. I get off the plane in my tropical gear

I dress in layers of clothes. t-shirt/shirt/sweatshirt/jacket. That way the clothes I wear to the island can be of use on chilly evenings or rainy days without having to have a parka with you. The other option is to leave your coat with your airport drop off and make sure it is with the person who picks you up at the airport.

I'm planning on doign what VickiH does. Gotta love those cargo pants that look good down or rolled up.

Hubby is planning on wearing the zip off kind of pants. He loves those.

NOT bringing a coat.

The car company had better be on time when we get back though!
