We spent some time with Kristen in February on a house tour and she did not mention she was an artist. Lovely stuff.

That's a beautiful painting, Mary Beth.

Does she have a gallery representing her on St. John? I don't remember seeing her stuff (though my shopping time was very abbreviated this trip).

Getting fine art for a birthday present is such a treat. Good for you! I think we should always do more to support artists-- not that I am one -- but I feel so much more creative when I am around them!!

One year, FF & her hubby went with me and my hubby to New orleans for my Birthday. I had fallen in love with an artsists work on a previous trip--Georg Williams (he does really fun quirky oils of pets and animals) and I had commissioned a painting from him of my two corgis, Duffy & Gromit. It was so much fun for all of us to visit him in his studio/home and see all of his work. I love artists that don't take themselves too seriously!

Anyway, seeing that painting everytime I walk into my living room makes me smile. It wasn't cheap, but honestly so worth it to know that I have something unique!!

If anyone else is interested in checking out Georg's work: http://www.georgwilliams.com/
One look and you fall in love!

Enjoy!

Us husbands can learn - sometimes it's just a brutal process.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

You all are bad for me! It's not enough that I check out each villa I see mentioned on this forum and start adding them to my list... now I'm checking out artists' work and making a wish list!

Gromit: I just sent Georg an email about ordering prints. I think the one called "Midnight" would be darling in my daughter's room.

Mary Beth: I also had fun checking out the Kristin Maize paintings -- love the pineapple! There are some neat paintings featured on the Michael Banzhaf Gallery site. Now I'm jonesin' for a Moe Kunsch of my own. I'll be on STJ for my next birthday... is it time to start dropping hints?

Happy Birthday!

I wanted to respond to this yesterday but then forgot! See, I am old! :)
Anyway, couldn't agree with you more Gromit. I love getting things like this for myself or as a gift. So much nicer to have in my life then another sweater!

I read in a magazine recently about a movie star, forget which one, who told her husband that she didn't want gifts she wanted experiences. And while i'm not a movie star :) I agree with that philosophy. I would much prefer to receive a trip to a museum or a show or be taken on a dining experience then to get a piece of jewlery which I'm never going to wear. I'm not a jewlery person to begin with but if I do buy I piece it is normally on vacation. I don't think Charlie believed me on the jewelery thing in the beginning but he's getting it now :)
Every time I look at this painting I will 'experience' it all over again.

I emailed Kristen Maize yesterday to thank her and I hope to see some of her other work while we are down there next month.
