In the home stretch for STJ

Well, in 7 days we'll be on St. Thomas making our way in our Dependable 4 door Wranglers towards Red Hook. We'll make a quick stop at Cost U Less for a case of Cruzan Dark, beer, and with any luck, some decent veggies.

Our Gang of 6 is composed entirely of STJ veterans. Across the 6 of us, we've made a total of 41 trips to STJ in the past. This is our 4th trip together and is looking to be very smooth. We've managed to cull all the whiners from past trips and we are down to the mellow partiers that "get it."

We are taking a different strategy this year with a focus on maximizing the liming. So, we are picking up our vehicles on STT in order to take control of our party faster, and we are bringing a cooler with frozen food. Normally, we do a massive Starfish market shopping exercise the day we arrive. We'll pick up some staples on STT and ice some beer, so that we can go straight to the villa and start the party.

Big Red and Becky are cooking up two big beer can chickens Sunday. They'll debone those, vacuum pack, and freeze them for our dinner on our first night; that way we can enjoy that first sunset with the minimum of stress. I vacuum packed a rack of steaks and have frozen Goya Papaya and Mango puree to go in the cooler as ice packs; I'm going to try out the tech-ice too. Pat and Janet will be contributing pork tenderloins to the freezer.

Its so nice going with experienced travelers. Low stress.

See ya on the island!

Cheers, RickG

Hey Rick,

If you and Christine ever need another couple to fill out a trip, let us know.
We're easy going, non-whiners and are cool with the no tan lines philosophy.
Also, I haven't fallen off of a kitchen island countertop yet, even in heels. 8)

Hey Rick-How do you like the 4 door wrangler? We had a reservation for a grand vitarra but the rental company sold off their fleet of vitarra's. Turns out we had to switch rental companies and we decided on a 4 door wrangler. I think they look awesome! How do they ride? If we like it,that might just be our next car purchase.

Happy Halloween in ST John!

Hey Naturegirl,
We rented a 4-door Wrangler in August and loved it. Very roomy and a smooth ride. Felt like there wasn't a hill (or mountain) we couldn't tackle!

The short answer is yes! Around 4PM? I'll follow up offline.

naturegirl, I've never driven the new 4-door Wrangler. It looks perfect for the island and has an aux port on the stereo for an MP3 player. I'm in the market for a new car and one of these would be fun! I'll report back.

SJfromNJ, I agree, Turkey loves the grill. I'm having a huge gang over for Thanksgiving this year (NoVa, not STJ :( ) and I will be using the smoker and the grill. I need the oven for pies and sweet potatoes. Smoked turkey, roast turkey and beef tenderloin in the smoker and grill with Virginia Country Ham cooked ahead of time. I don't expect to sleep the night before, but that's my idea of fun.

Jorge, applications to pre-qualify? I think we should go with auditions!

Cheers, RickG
