Spirit Airlines-Charging for All Checked Luggage Now

Was just reserving our seat assignments for upcoming flights on Spirit Air and noticed they are charging for any checked luggage now. They will allow you 1 carry one free of charge. If you pay in advance checked luggage is $10.00 per piece, $20.00 per piece if you pay at the counter.

Have noticed that some of you use Spirit (as are we) for your trips to STT so I thought I would pass this along. I guess we need to factor this in when shopping airfare from now on.

yup, I just paid it for my flight to Detroit. One bag for $10 in advance. Overall it was still cheaper than the Northwest flight I could have taken.

Interesting. Are the other airlines going to start doing this too?

It doesn't bother me to pay for checked-in luggage, as long as it's fair:

They should not let people start taking on huge bags and then having the attendants check them in for free. Imagine the free-for-all then!

Remember the bad-old-days of "no frills" flying? No assigned seats, no food, stampede scene at the gate. I hope no airlines plan to try that again

I flew Allegiant to Florida for my brother's wedding and they charge $4 pre-paid for one bag, and then your second bag is more. If you don't pre-pay for a bag, it's $10 when you check in.

Or at least that's what it was in June. It may be more now if Spirit's charging $10. I'll probably fly them to Florida in the next few months $39 one way from Chattanooga to Orlando or Ft. Liquordale!!!
