Has anyone used Lion in the sun and if so how were they. Do they have a ladder to get on and off or do you use the motor step?

I have only heard great things about this charter.

I heard about these guys over on onstjohn.com and decided to get a price for a 1/2 day. I will say of the three options I looked into they were the higher end & offered the least amenities.

$450 for 4 hours, no snacks or drinks though you could bring your own.

Another was $400 for 3.5 hours with drinks provided but no food.

The final, and the winner for us, was $70/pp (sail not powerboat) for a 1/2 day including snacks, drinks and snorkel stuff (not an issue for us as we are all bringing our own, but may be a consideration for others). On this sail you also had the option of buying out the boat for $420. There are 4 of us going and we don't care if an extra couple joins us. The boat is GORGEOUS and very big.

These are all rates for 1/2 day as that is all we have to commit kid free. But all of them also do the BVI trips.

My 2 cents.

FF- I think it works out cheaper when you rent for the whole day. For 6 people for a full day on Lion in da sun it works out to be about $100/pp. The captain is suppose to be awesome! Have read many great reviews on the trip on tripadvisor.

A sail sounds lovely as well. Have a great time but I should see you before that at the beach bar.

BTW, Lucky break that Delta cancelled the trip for the 15th huh?

I think nature girl hit the nail on the head. Although they advertise half days, most charters want to run a full day for "economy of scale". Who would of thought that whole economics thing they made us do in college would be usefull. Anyway for a day trip to the BVI's, I think the power boat works out better. More limin' time and more flexibility. I do love to sail and a day trip or half day trip with some snorkling and a lunch aboard is a great way to spend a day, but I have to get my Jost Fix. This is a short trip for us Friday to Thursday and we have some business to take care of on St Thomas so our beach time will be reduced from a normal trip, make the most of the time we have.

I totally agree with that assessment and it makes sense. I would LOVE to do a whole day but its just not in the cards this trip. And though we've done the baths and Jost, we haven't done a real sail around STJ.

We are also doing a 1/2 day dinghy out to waterlemon (at least that's the plan). So we've asked to go other places around STJ for the sail. I can't wait to see what we find.

It won't be long now!
