After exploring the mapping website posted by jmq, I became more interested in exploring the East end during my upcoming trip in Nov. I'm a 3rd time visitor, and have done all the North Shore quite often, and have REALLY enjoyed my excursions to Little Lameshur and beyond. I'm thinking that I would enjoy some exploration on the East End. Can anyone tell me anything about the bays/beaches below?

We love the east end of the island. We make a point of getting to Haulover every time we're on STJ but other than that, we've only been to the beaches on the western side of the east end (the Coral Bay side) ---Vie's, Hanson, the Pelican Rock area--and like them very much. I'm intrigued by the ones on the eastern side that you've marked.
Here's a link to videos about hiking to Newfound Bay and another about diving it.

There is one that is below all of that new East End development that is supposed to be AWESOME snorkeling according to Lauren at Estate Lidnholm but apparantly you can only get there by boat. Our Ocean Runner guide said the same thing to us this summer about it, but I can't remember the name of it.

Last year we drove the road to Privateer Bay. We didn't go all the way to the beach area, but to an overlook just before it. The beach looked very rocky. I would imagine that on a windy/breezy day, it would be very rough, with its eastern exposure. Also, lots on construction in the area. The road in is beautifully paved. It's worth checking out, even if only for the photo opps. Gorgeous!

Newfound Bay indeed has some fine snorkeling. We went there via boat with Capt Clark on White Wing Ap 06. Loads of healthy coral on both sides of the entrance to the horseshoe shaped bay with big schools of tang, with rays and turtles in the middle of the bay.
I think Sloop Jones might've written about this in recent months re either the hike there (not sure how easy it is to reach by land) or about somebody out on East End who will rent and maybe guide you via sea kayak there. Do a search of Sloop's posts and maybe you can find that info.

We snorkeled Newfound Bay, by boat as well. It was very nice. Like jmq said, there was lots of healthy coral and beautiful sea life.
We drove to the end of the road at the east end, but didn't check out any other of the bays out there. I would like to learn more about them as well.

Great info! Thanks to everyone. I'll definitely do a search for the sloop info. Looking forward to discovering more of STJ!!!
