The Fish Trap Restaurant

I saw on Ruth's website that this restaurant is closed until Oct.19th. I just went on their website and there is a message running across the top of it saying that they are now open! They are NEVER open when we are on St. John. Can anyone reconfirm this? And if so, is this place worth going to for dinner?

Thanks in advance!

We had some service challenges there on our last trips. They seemed to have a LOT of LARGE groups. The waitresses were running hard and the kitchen was behind. I just ordered a second bottle of wine... soon come.

The fish is certainly fresh at The Fish Trap, but the food is pretty unexciting. If you want anything other than fish I would recommend another option. My parents do like The Fish Trap a good bit. Me? I would look at La Tapa, Rhumblines, Zozos, Stone Terrace.... first.

Cheers, RickG

Thanks for the recommendations! We are definitely going to try Rhumblines this time - never been. We have tried La Tapa and Zozos. There is just too many restaurants and not enough nights to eat at them

Susan - June '06 - my husband and I did not eat at the Fish Trap but they do have (or did have) a little fishery that you can buy fish to bring back to your villa - which is what we did with some of Ruth's spices - and we made a fanastic dinner which was eaten while watching the sunset from the comfort of our own villa. Not trying to take away from the business for the wait staff and restaurant, but just a suggestion.

If it is somehow open when I am down there in a couple of weeks, I plan to get some fish to take back to the villa and cook for dinner.

Lulu - I would second buying the fish and taking it back to the villa. We ate there once and the service was poor and the food wasn't good compared to everything else we had eaten. Too many other good places in our book.

Rick - so glad to know about being able to get fresh fish there!!!
