USVI-On-Line

I know that it takes a little "bending" for this to be a VI travel topic, but I've found the folks here to be so resourceful and helpful that I hope you'll indulge me...

I have an old canvas semi-floppy hat that has been my constant beach/dive boat/outdoors headgear of choice.

The drawstring and "slider" (the piece where the ends of the string come together that slides to draw the string tight up under your chin) finally gave up the ghost.

No way will I get rid of the hat, but I'd love to be able to replace the broken parts so that it won't go flying off of my head as I zoom up and down the north shore on a dinghy!

I tried googling and have found many hats, but no replacement parts. They may very well be somewhere here in my hometown, but I've no clue as to where to look.

Do any of you?

That's a good idea that I may have to resort to.

The original drawstring was just sholelace material. I just haven't found the "hardware" to tie them together and slide.

I may poke around in a fabric or craft store before I give up.

Shoelaces!!

You can match the color for the drawstring, then go to REI or Dick's and you can get a little plastic slider (ya know....pinch to slide like thing) to go up and down the string.

Hmmm, I just grab that big roll of jute twine for stuff like this and bundling brush for pickup. It gives that whole Castaway look.
