It looks like we may be doing a BVI sailing trip in March or April! I'll know exactly when after the guys decide on the boat - they've narrowed it down to two catamarans, so we're close. Of course that means we'll spend a few days on STJ either before or after (my contigiency - I'll only sail IF we spend some time on STJ as well). We've done a BVI sail once before, but obviously haven't seen everything, so I'll have to start compiling a list of "must-see places" - I welcome suggestions Let the planning begin!

Congrats on the almost ticker. If your sailing then Anegada is a must do. I love lobster on the beach at the Anegada Reef Hotel. Take a cab over to the beach swide of the islad the next morning and spend the day on one of the nicest beaches on the planet. If you want to make the guys pay for roughing it on a boat for the week. You can do the day spay at Peter Island Resort, check out their web page. Jost VanDyke goes without saying. Spend the afternoon at Whites's bay then anchor in Great Harbor, I would get reservations at Corsairs for dinner then do Foxy's afterwards. Warning this kind of day will lead to the induction of way to much rum. If you don't beleive me check out this slide show I did from a charter a couple of years ago.

If anyone on the trip dives then the Rhone is not to be missed. If you have any other questions let me know we have done several charters, I usually only stay on land under duress.

I'm planning to keep a journal during the trip so that I can write a detailed trip report when I return (we haven't even gotten a date or a boat yet, and I'm planning my trip report!), so stay tuned...

CA Girl - As a crew member, my responsibility will be to keep myself (and my drink) as far out of the way as possible. This is an extremely important role as it provides the crew members who do the real work unfettered access to all of the thing-a-m-bobs and do-hickies that require attention. It is also an essential part of the effort to avoid alcohol spillage. Luckily there are always several of these positions available

CaptainJay - We did Anegada last time (6 yrs ago) and I thought the snorkeling at Loblolly Bay was awesome. Unfortunately, our captain lost a close friend at Loblolly last year (suffered a heart attack while snorkeling and drowned), and he's not up to returning there yet. We'll probably spend the extra time around Virgin Gorda instead. I am also hoping to overnight at Jost this time (only day-moored there in the past) - any suggestions?

You'll have a blast. We did a crewed charter a couple of years ago and loved it; we were the only boat around some nights.

I'd second the trip to Anegada (if you have time); I hear it is a tricky entry due to the reefs - we've only done it as a day trip on the ferry.

Visit JVD, but overnight on the other side of the island from white Bay; I think it is Sandy Cay (near foxy's taboo) - good snorkeling and less crowded.

Sailing around the islands sounds like so much fun. A different scene every day if you wish. It’s something I’d like to do sometime. Enjoy the planning & trip. Be sure to let us know how it turns out.

The captain is a friend of mine that we have sailed with several times. He is a great guy. There were ten of us (five couples) plus the captain and the chef. As for an overnight at Jost I would stay in Great Harbor and eat at Sidney's then go to Foxy's for the night life. When we are on charter we usually do Jost on a Friday or Saturday towards the end of the trip. It usually gets a little drunk out and since we dive its nice to get the diving done earlier in the week as apposed to trying to dive hung over as I don't think I have ever woke up in great harbor without a hangover. I am almost certain we are reqularly served bad rum on Jost as it couldn't possible be our own fault. Foxy's beach barque is fun but the food is much better at Corsair's, plus you have to meet Vinny he is another drop out from the mainland that got drunk and opened a business in the islands.
By the way I am sorry to hear your captain las a friend at Anegada, that would be my one caveat to anyone going there the beach is assume but it can be rough its totaly unprotected and if the surf is up the currents will be strong. If you aren't going to Anegada then I would probably spend a day or two around St John. We haven't done this on past charters, but after spending a week on St John last year and boating in the area several days even though we stayed on land, we will likely spend some time around the island on the next charter. There are truly some spectacular beaches around the island. Also like a said before if you want some pampering make the guys take you to the day spa at Peter Island they welcome boats. We have stoped there during the day and snorkled/dove but haven't overnighted there. They do have moorings available and you can go ashore and have dinner there but it is a little pricey.
