We have decided to return this coming summer.This summer we stayed on St Thomas and we would like to return and stay on St John . We have invited my sister inlaw and bro.inlaw this time. There will be 5 of us going. We have never stayed in a villa and thought we would this time. We were on St John only for a day so we dont know alot. Our budget for a villa is around $3,000 a week . Thinking about Cruz bay area. Not sure how privacey is with villas ? We would like something private for dining out on a deck and enjoying a few drinks. If anyone can reccomend something I would greatly appreciate it . Any other locations are great too ,since we know little about the area.How far in advance should we book something?We are looking at July of 2008.Thanks so much .

Sillymom,
Check out some of the villa websites;
www.caribbeanvilla.com
www.cateredto.com
www.vivavacations.com
www.seaviewhomes.com
wwww.destinationstjohn.com
Try to find a few villas you would be interested in and post for those villas it kind of speeds up the process. Also print a map of St.John so you know the areas the villas are in such as Cruz bay, Great Cruz Bay, Rendezvous Bay etc. Good luck, you will have lots of help around here.

Everyone has been so helpful to us in our search this year for a villa, that I just had to jump in here.

Last two years we stayed a Le Virage in Rendezvous Bay (see Destination St John) which is about 6 or 7 minutes from Cruz Bay. Pictures on the site are good, but do not do it justice.
Le Virage is private (check if lot next door which was for sale is in constructon), the view was excellent and the villa is very well kept, with a hugh great room, sliding doors running the whole side of the house. and bedrooms on either side of the great room with 2 bedrooms below.
Pool is not hugh, but was perfect, and we cooked dinner most every nite and ate out on the terrace. Kitchen is well equipted with everything!
You are high up, so your views are unabstructed which was very important to us.
I have some pictures if you are interested, let me know. I think once you try a villa on SJ, you will be hooked.

Sillymom-
Your welcome. It can get confusing but I would suggest staying close to Cruz bay on your first trip until you get to know the island. Try looking for something in the Contant Point or Great Cruz Bay area unless you want to just relax then look for something further from town (Rendezvous Bay) or on the Coral Bay side. Enjoy the planning, believe it or not, it can be fun and make sure to ASK as many questions
as you want, the friendly forumites are a wealth of St. John knowledge!
