We have paid 1/2 the rental for the villa, and have purchased our airline tickets, however, we do not travel (to STJ) until June 2008. The cost for the trip insurance with the pre existing conditions included is very affordable...but is there a deadline on when we must buy it? Seems to me I remember hearing 30 days prior to travel. Is that right? Thanks!

I have no idea but was thinking about trip insurance myself. Anybody......Bueller?

We had the same trip insurance. As long as you get the insurance before you make the final payment on the villa - you're covered. We got the insurance about a month before making the final payment and then had to cancel our trip this past may. The company is great to work with and thay refunded the cost that we would loose. I bought ours thru CSA on the Tuesday night before our Saturday departure. We went in Feb. and there were all sorts of stomach viruses, strep throat, etc flying thru my daughters' school and I got very paranoid. Airfare and 100% of villa costs were already paid and supposedly, according to CSA, covered.

I am just in the process of looking at travel insurance for the first time too. I have check many companies and CSA, which was recommended by Cloud9 villas, seems to have the best rates and general policies. It was my understanding that insurance had to be purchased 30 days in advance of departure.

OK, I finally got my travel insurance figured out. As I mentioned before, we bought travel insurance through http://www.travelinsurancecenter.com . They represent 18 plus different plans by different companies. The insurance we got was provided through HTH Worldwide and the plan was HTH TripProtector. travelinsurancecenter.com was great to work through and answered all my questions and concerns. As it turns out HTH Worldwide uses CSA Travel Claims to administer their claims.

I have to tell you that both travelinsurancecenter.com and CSA Travel Claims were great to work with. The whole process of finding insurance and then having to file a claim was painless. I hope this helps.

CSA insurance is very good. Yes, you must purchase before your final payment on the trip in order to have pre-existing conditions covered. If your "final payment" doesn't occur until your trip begins then buying the insurance even a few days before departure is sufficient. I've used them for myself as well as purchasing on behalf of others that I set up vacations for. CSA is great to work with.

You can buy some insurance up to 24 hours prior to departure......read the fine print as that does reduce your benefits. I think that the deadline others are referring to only applies to pre-existing medical conditions and coverage should your "tour operator" go out of business. And this also varies as well from 15-90 days of payment again depending on the policy.

insuremytrip.com is a great place to start, with side by side comparisons from many different companies. They are also helpful on the phone. I called and gave them my specific situations that I wanted covered.

Having said all that....I think it is dangerous to generalize how different policies may apply to your situation. READ and ASK questions.

Ksea, I've never used CSA but I know that in my past dealings with TI, in order for pre-existing to be covered, the policy had to be purchased when you first book your trip (book villa?), otherwise I think you can add it anytime up to even a few days before your trip. Make sure you read the fine print and ask them to clarify on the pre-existing if you want that indcluded.

Holy cow! You already have your airfare? We are going in June too and haven't booked it yet. I;ve been antsy about that, now I'm really antsy! Just waiting for a decent price!
