Paradiso Restaurant?

Has anyone ever eaten at Paradiso? We don't have a lot of options when we visit in two weeks and this is one of the few that will be open...

We ate there in June and enjoyed our meal. I remember I had a seared tuna in a roasted pepper sauce that I really enjoyed. It is a little expensive though, and there are other places in that price range that I like more (La Tapa, Zozo's, Stone Terrace).

We ate there on our honeymoon in 2003...and even though we've been back to STJ every year since, we've never made it back to Paradiso...we liked it, but the prices are pretty high. My husband had the best tuna of his life at Paradiso (he still talks about it). There is a different chef there now, so I don't know how the restaurant has changed since.

I can tell you though that we had one of the funniest experiences ever at Paradiso. Our waitress was being all proper and talking in a phony British type accent and kept calling me "M'Lady"...we kept expecting her to come back and call my husband "M'Lord," but it never happened. It was very hard to keep a straight face every time she'd come to our table and call me "M'Lady."

That was funny enough, but then a few days later we saw her at Starfish Market...her accent was gone and she looked totally busted...her clothes were on all crooked and her hair was a mess and she basically looked like she'd passed out on the side of the road the night before. She wasn't so proper in real life :lol:

We love Paradiso and now that Paul Trujillo
(sp?) is in place as the chef it is even better. Paul was the chef at Ten Tables another favoite before it closed.
Pricing seems to be reasonable and I am told by "Micheal" a long time St. John waiter who came over from Ten Tables and Tage that Paul is really focusing on providing value along with his usual exceptional quality.
I also like the fact that its easy to find parking and free at Mongoose Junction.
Also try the Ocean Grill at Mongoose Junction John Gilfilan the owner is a great young guy and deserves support and also serves an excellent dinner menu in a great setting.

We went there 2 weeks ago based on the fact that the bartender at Zozos told us the chef was indeed the guy from Ten Tables.
The best meal we ever had down there was at Ten Tables during our trip 2 ½ yrs ago, so then I wanted to go even though it would be one more higher priced dinner than planned.
Paradiso was very good. Prices weren’t crazy in that you get value for quality and quantity of food, but we didn’t drink that night which helped.
By comparison, we thought the food a night or 2 earlier at Zozos was a little better.
I don’t have trip notes in front of me right now for specifics, but will reference when I finish my trip report.
If it is one of the few restaurants still open when you go, it is a great choice. Even nice to have option of dining in A/C for a change if it humid or buggy.
The dining room is beautiful, top notch service, wait staff very knowledgeable and will help you with choices.
