Yeah, husband signed us up for sailing school (pray that I don't fall overboard - LOL) in December but before the high season begins. Anyway, I'm looking for suggestions on where we can stay in STT to catch a very early Saturday morning flight out. I'm thinking that we'll spend most of the evening in STJ and then catch one of the later ferries back to STT, so we'd just need somewhere to sleep for the night; something safe, decent and not too pricey (if that exists). We've stayed at Villa Santana and The Green Iguana and have been very happy with both stays. Quaint, not "big hotel chain" like, within walking distance of CA for dinner (though at night may want to take a cab back for safety), and both very reasonably priced.

Stayed at the Best Western by the airport (the closest hotel, the one you can see across the parking lot). Not very nice, but close.

Have heard nothing but good things about The Crystal Palace (Ronnie's place), of course, but no personal experience there.

I would suggest The Green Iguana. That is where we stay when we have to catch those early flights. The price is right, the people helpful and they often give you a lift (for a slight donation) to the airport in the morning.

I was wondering that also. We are coming in on a Saturday late and need somewhere to stay that night. What does anybody think about the Marriott or Holiday Inn?

We have stayed at the Holiday Inn in Charlotte Amalie twice (second time we got a harbor view and it was worth it), and this past time we stayed at the Mafolie Hotel - http://www.mafolie.com/ . Both were fine for one or two nights.

I like the location of the Holiday Inn better for getting to and from the airport and the CA Ferry (it wasn't running this time so it didn't matter) and liked being right there on the harbor.

From the Holiday Inn, it was an easy walk to lots of restaurants. We liked the restaurants in French Town.

The hotel itself was nothing fancy - just an ordinary Holiday Inn. The Mafolie was just an ordinary hotel as well. From the outside it doesn't look like anything at all, but it is nice.

Never used the pool at the Mafolie but it had an awesome view where the pool at the Holiday Inn was in the center of the hotel. Cat and hubby used the pool at the Mafolie though and were there longer than us.

Two friends stayed at Emereald Beach last month. I picked them up there and walked through, it looked good. About 149/night. I would definitely stay there for the night if I had an early flight.

I would go with the BW Emerald Beach w/o hesitation. We've stayed there twice. The last one was last May. I don't have any experience with the others that have been discussed, so this is not to say they are not recommended.

BW is clean, safe, close to the airport, and all the rooms face the water. The sound of the surf is nice at bed time and in the AM. It is a short cab ride to the terminal.

I second (or 3rd or 4th) the BW Emerald Beach. Around $150/night, clean, close to airport, nice pool, right on beach.

Whatever you do, DO NOT STAY AT THE BEST WESTERN right next to the airport. Very dirty. We unfortunately stayed there a night when our flight was canceled and had to get hammered before we went to bed so that we wouldnt be focusing on the bugs in the room!!

I also recommend BW Emerald Beach for a night over.

I recommend The Crystal Palace. Clean, affordable and the best host (Ronnie).
