Villa Help

I must admit I have been lurking since we got back.
I am desperately trying to see if we can work coming back in late Sept for a week with two other couples.
So here is the predicament
We do not want to rent a car, so that does limit us to where we can stay. This time we may need a 3 bedroom/3 bath villa. I can't seem to find too many in the Cruz Bay area that is within the budget....
So for all of you that stay out a little further, I was wondering if you could provide your input on this thought
Are there any villa's that would be within walking distant to either Caneel or the Westin that we could walk to to catch taxis to go to the different beaches?????
I know most will think we are nuts not to rent a vehicle, but we have done it twice before & feel it is the way for us.
Any other suggestins on how I can make this work.... We need our St John fix.................

Check out Viridian Gardens (destinationstjohn.com). It looks like it has some availability late in September. I believe it is close enough for you to walk to the Westin, but the good folks at Destination St. John will definitely tell you.
Another option is Villa Villakula (seaviewhomes.com), also in Great Cruz Bay. I am not 100% sure, but I think this is a bit of a longer walk.

Hey Ruth
Have you thought about Palm Terrace - one of their 3 bedroom units - not a private villa but you might be the only ones in the complex anyway.
My family have stayed there and it is walkable to town and the units are beautiful
Here is the link - and Destination St John shows to ask about their "20%-30% off" specials for September and October - might be worth a try.

Hi Ruth,
I don't know your budget, but some places close to the Westin that come to mind are Tennis Villa and the Beach Estate, Splash and Gull Cottage (rented together)...there's a bunch of places down in that area. I can't think of any place close enough to Caneel that would be a reasonable walk.

Kallaloo is located above Gibney and my mom would walk to Caneel each morning although I think most normal people would not want to do it on a regular basis.

Why on earth would you NOT want to rent a Jeep while you're there with 2 other couples? Having your own wheels to explore the island is soooooooooo much fun. I personally wouldn't want to be without a Jeep while I'm there. Have the other couples you're going with been to STJ before?
Pia's suggestion sounds like a good one.

Shopper- I was going to suggest Palm Terrace also. It is so walkable to town, and Gallows is right down the street ( there is a great little shop there for 'everyting') and it is on a cute little residential street. The 3 bedroom there is HUMONGOUS . ( all room s are not created equal, tho) Our unit was on the top floor, in the building on the right. Wow, and with the Fall discount, it may be the right price!
Coconut Coast Studios is right down the street, too!!
ps Make sure you tell everyone to bring ear plugs...Mr. Rooster loves the 3 a.m. hour!!!

I'm in the same boat with Diana2.
We rented a Ford Explorer from Delbert Hill Jeep Rental and easily fit 6. We had a ball driving all over the island, hitting all the beaches and having the freedom of hopping back in the Explorer for a tasty burger at Skinny Legs in Coral Bay. The car was $500 for the week and could be split amongst the 3 couples.
See what the other couples think!
Just a thought!

I agree that you should really consider renting a vehicle. Catching a cab to a beach is one thing, but sometimes finding a cab to get home can be challenging unless you make arrangements in advance, then you're stuck to a timetable. Who wants a timetable in STJ??

Hi Ruth,
I've not stayed there, but check out Star Villa and Star View; this might work for you and yor friends (
www.starvillas.com).
You could also try up and down of Villa Bougainvillea; the Loft is definitely fine for 2 couples; although you said the Garden suite was rather small.
Have fun planning -

FYI, Star Villas is now at Starvillas.org
We rented Star Villa for June 2008. The owners Bob and Marlene are so nice to deal with and the price is very reasonable. Ive read you can walk to town, but the walk home is up-hill of course. Maybe just a 1 or 2 day rental car will work for you...that's what we are gonna do! $60-90 per day depending on what size car you need. Hope that helps.
