AS THE ISLAND TURNS - part 4

Saturday, Aug. 4th

We were planning to visit Trunk Bay on Sunday when no cruise ships were in port. But we decided to make today Trunk day since Sunday is now deep sea fishing/shopping day due to the weather.

I wanted to leave early to get a good spot on the beach, but sweet girlfriend made a huge breakfast of fluffy pancakes, eggs & bacon, so we couldn't just eat and run.

While gathering our things for the beach, guess who is sitting in hubby's suitcase?

My nephew had no problem catching him and passing his new friend around for a nice pet. As long at it's not around me!

We still managed to make it to Trunk before 10 a.m. and found a nice shady spot for the day, and barely before the cruisers started to arrive!! It was interesting snorkling in the underwater super highway trail full of yellow vests! Bodies and flippers were flying everywhere in a frenzy to take pictures of every little fish in a 10 ft. radius. If I were a turtle, stingray, baracuda or shark, I would be hiding under a rock until the swarm cleared out! I needed to get out of that traffic and back to our base camp for a little rest and relaxation! (and bury my neice in the sand)

Within an hour the cruise whistle blew! It must be lunchtime for the passengers. They took their last 20 pictures of paradise then had to go. Bye, bye!

My hubby convinced his mom that she must snorkle the underwater trail with him. She hesitated for a while but he ended up pulling her through the water on her floatie so she could stick her mask in the water when she got there. I wish I had my camera for this! Somehow she snorkeled and didn't get her hair wet. Papa refused to stick even a toe in the sand, just relaxing under a tree patiently waiting for his fishing trip tomorrow.

After scarfing down burgers & fries before the seagulls attacked us, we knew we had to somehow get the kids rounded up, showered off and hit the road. Hubby took the kids back to the villa for more swimming while the girls made a steak run at Starfish.

Oh! We also need Cruz Bay Grill rub!

With strict instructions I barked, "You! And You! Jump out of the car! Run up those stairs to St. John Spice! Ask for the rub, pay and jump back in the car!" The girls followed the orders while I found a side spot by the taxi stand. I knew I would be booted out quick so hurry girls!

Knock, knock, knock! You can't park here! Taxi only!

O.K. chill out!

Pulled out slowwwwwly just in time! Here comes the rub!

We made it back for St. John Sunset Chardonnay! AHHH . . .

That evening everyone agreed that we enjoyed the best steaks EVER. And that's hard for us Texans to say! I think there is something illegal in the rub! Sorry no food porn of the best steaks we ever had, but you will see some before the trip is over ~~~~

TOMORROW IS FISHING TRIP/SHOPPING DAY!
Will the weather cooperate? Will the guys bring home a mess-o-fish? Will the girls find the perfect hook bracelets?? Stay tuned . . . 8)

How funny about your husband's mom. When I took my parents to St. John, I convinced my mom to snorkel the Trunk trail too. She's in her 60's and had never snorkeled before. She did fine on the trail side, but like an idiot, I swam her around the point to go back down the other side to the beach. Well, the current was strong and she got all freaked out. She put her head down and started swimming like she was trying for an Olympic medal - apparently, she had decided she was GOING IN. Only problem was, she kept getting turned and was ferociously swimming parallel to shore. She was in such a frenzy, that I got so tickled I nearly drowned, because I kept laughing and snorting water up my nose. Every 2 or 3 minutes I had to swim up beside her, grab her torso and turn her back toward the beach. A few minutes later, she'd be swimming out to sea again and I'd have to get up beside her (laughing and choking) and turn her to the beach again. She wouldn't snorkel again after that. Not with me, anyway.
