USVI-On-Line

I know I have read about them here, but I cannot seem to find the threads. Does anyone have any comments about them or any prices? We would like to spend a day at BVI spots but it has to be affordable. No frills is OK with us, and can we bring our own cooler?

We were recommended them by our waitress at Rhumb Lines who's family owned the Nauti Nymph charter. She suggested them for a small group.

We ended up renting from Ocean Runner with a captain (Tony) but saw the Lion in the Sun boat while we were at Congo. It is a small boat and our comment to each other was that we were glad we opted for the Ocean Runner.

p.s. We initially thought the guys at Ocean Runner were not very outgoing to put it mildly, but we actually had a GREAT time with Tony who was REALLY nice and did whatever we wanted to do.

Thanks, I will go check out Ocean Runner while waiting for any other comments. Got any prices? We will be a party of 5.

YIKES! We spent over 700.00 for 6 of us to go on Ocean Runner for the day to the BVIs. Gas was over 260.00 when we returned the boat. Add that to the cost of the boat with captain and it is very pricey. Our captain (Joel) was WONDERFUl and we had a great time but it was a lot of money. We went to the baths (just an hour there - not enough time) to Sandy Spit for a quick swin and photo op. and to Jost for Soggy Dollar. Great day but next year will do a sail.

Bill has his heart set on a boat trip, but that's a lot of $$$. I checked the OR prices on line but I must have missed the part about the gas!

Yup - gas is a biggy...when we were at the pumps on the dock at the end, I asked my husband "is that 26.00???" He said NO honey that's 260.00!!!!, I almost fainted! (I actually think the contract said rental PLUS gas and OIL but we were not charged for oil - thank heaven!) It was a GREAT day but you have to budget for it!

KSea - I don't know what the cost was but do know that we paid for the gas too.

We had been to the Baths before so we skipped that which definitetly cut down on our amount of gas.

We went to Congo (right next to Lovango) first and did a drift snorkel which was beautiful. Next we went to The Indians (loved it) then to the Caves (neat but would skip this next time for sure). I thought the Caves were going to go far in, but they didn't. Talked about going to Willie T.'s but decided not to. Went to lunch at Foxy's Taboo (BEST fish sandwhich I had the entire trip) where we bought lunch for Tony as well. Then we ended the trip at White Bay briefly going to Soggy Dollar then over to One Love Beach Bar which I highly recommend over Soggy Dollar if you are looking for a more mellow/less crowded atmosphere. Then back home.

I know gas would have been alot more had we gone all the way to the Baths. I think the trip was definitely worth the money because SO who paid as a treat for us wanted to take another trip - just never happened.

Last time we took the ferry to JVD and had just enough time to eat lunch at the Soggy Dollar...walk by One Love, and walk over to Ivans for one drink, and swim a little. Only a few minutes of hammock time! We would like to be able to spend more time in that neck of the woods but cannot spend a small fortune.

KSea - I thought the ferry went over to JVD early in the morning and left around 4pm.

We had contmeplated doing that but ended up doing the Ocean Runner thing. If you are just going to Jost, I wonder if one of those water taxis might be better.

Keep us posted on what you decide or find out.

We took the 8am ferry. Then we had to take a short taxi ride over to the Soggy Dollar area. We were not comfy in our chairs until 11am for some reason (delays) The taxi driver picked us up at 3 to take us back to the ferry dock. I know it seems like a full day but its not quite long enough. We would like to have stayed until about 5 or 6pm. I will check out the private water taxi and see what I find...I will let you know! PS- we would also like to make a couple of stops before landing on JVD...so the ferry doesnt work for that. The cost of the ferry was $50 each RT. Upon our return to CB, there was a one hour wait to get a "parking space" for the ferry at the dock. That was kinda irritating!

We went on Lion in Da Sun. We all loved it. Went to Soggy Dollar, Foxy's, Sandy Spit, Taboo, and a couple of snorkel spots near St. John. There were 6 of us. We paid $475 for the boat, $20/person for customs, I think $120 for gas, plus a tip. So I guess it was about $120/ person plus tip. Captain Josh was great!

That sounds like a great day to me!

Our family used "Lion In Da Sun" last Thanksgiving and Josh provided a great day to the BVI for our family of 6 adults. The cost was about $120 per person and we found that going on a smaller charter is just what made the trip so special. If you haven't been to the website -- here it is!
