I've been watching Jet Blue and they just posted their February '08 fares. Boston to San Juan is $648. A $99 Cape Air puddle jumper puts us on STT for under $800. I can't believe it's come to this but it's the best deal I've been able to find in the last few years. I guess the days of $400 fares during school vacation week are a thing of the past. There are better fares if we don't mind changing planes 3 times and turning what should be a 4 hour trip into a 12 hour ordeal.


Also, Gallows' website seems to be down from here. Would anyone have thie phone number handy? I'd very much appreciate if someone could post it.

I feel your pain concerning the connections/length versus prices. American out of Philly at times is just under $400 but the times are insane and would never work for our family. We paid $600 for February 08 from Philly (direct) yet I can't stop calculating 5 x $200 difference equals.....a sh_tload of money.

I don't get it PA girl. Why don't more carriers have direct flights to STT from the northeast during the biggest vacation weeks of the year? I know, I know....because we will pay through the nose for the ones they have now. It's bloody extortion!!!

One would wonder. Each year, my husband refuses to believe (until I prove it to him) that US Air is the only carrier to provide direct flights to STT.

I feel the pain. I have not booked our tickets for Easter week 2008 yet. American is the only airline quoting real fares that far out from DC, and the times are goofy. I think its too early for most of the airlines to book. But I want to get this one done early with oil going non-linear.

Direct flights from DC? I wish! United will occasionally sell you a direct ticket. Then, they usually cancel and book you on a US Air codeshare via Charlotte or Philly. I did see a direct flight on United from Boston to STT on a Saturday in March.

I may try flying down to Miami the night before for March so we can catch the early MIA->STT flight on Saturday morning - if American puts that back on the schedule.

Not sure what your dates are in Feb. but I just did a travelocity search for the first Sat-Sat flight in Feb and found American nonstop Boston to STT for $525 pp. Flight times weren't horrendous either. Keep searching, something will turn up.

I bought my tickets in June for our Feb 08 trip on USAir from Philly to STT nonstop for $520 each. Last year I paid $500. I was always apprehensive at buying so early but now am finding that the prices seem to be lower earlier on, then start going up the closer you get. And while I continue to be concerned about USAir and their continued delays/lost luggage stories, it's the only airline that flies nonstop from Philly. So I figure the risk of delays etc is the offset to the convenience of the nonstop flight.

Thanks martinigirl. Our dates are the 16th to the 26th. I was afraid that the prices were just going to keep going up so I booked the JetBlue flight to San Juan and Cape Air to STT. If all goes on schedule we'll be on STT by 2:30. If something comes along that is less and would have put us on STT earlier I'll scream, but if the prices just keep going up, I'll be glad we booked when we did.

We're all set for Gallows unit 12D for the first 2 nights and 9C for the remaining 8. Richard said that 9C is starting work on a new kitchen and bathroom this month so it should be nice by February. All that is left to do now is reserve the car and start the annual Countdown to St. John Fitness Quest.

For you NJ,PA, NY fliers, Continental out of Newark(EWR) has a direct to St. Thomas and it is usually cheaper that USAir out out Philly and only slightly longer. We have done this twice to save money while still getting a direct flight!

I could be wrong on this so don't quote me but I think CO only flies direct on Saturday, even in season. Otherwise you have to connect through SJU.

You could be correct, I usually fly Sat-Sat. I too like the USAir direct flight but USAir has alot of problems and if I have to connect I usually try to go through Miami or Washington.I have had many flight delays in Charlotte and San Juan is ALWAYS overbooked on the return flight. But in general Newark seems to be cheaper that Philly for most flights if you don't mind the drive.

Newark is actually closer for us but I really don't like the SJU connection so I have flown CO to STT yet.

Flying to STT from West of the Mississippi is no picnic either. From PHX it usually takes 3 or 4 flights and connecting thru MIA and PHL is a real pain. In September i am lucking out with only 1 stop in ATL on Delta for only $389, seems to good to be true, but i still can't wait go get on that red eye flight !

Is the $99 "puddle jumper" from SJU for round trip or one-way? All the Cape Air Flights I see are closer to $200 RT.
