Crabby's Not So Dinghy Rental and MORE- Update

Greetings all!

Admittedly I've been super busy and am just now catching up on goings on here on the Forum.

Earlier today I recommended Crabby's watersports for a Dinghy rental to someone. However, in reading other posts I noticed someone said they are no longer renting Dinghy's due to insurance reasons.

Well, I decided to go The MAN, Doug aka. Crabby, himself.

He informs me that they are indeed no longer renting motorized Dinghy's, however they do have many other types of watercraft for rent. His e-mail is below:

"Everything is good down here. The insurance was renewable,no problem, it just that I decided not to pay the ever increasing premiums, they made it very difficult to make a profit. With never a claim in seven years, I felt I was working those boats just to pay them. I still have the moorings out front and I will replace the dinghies with something, I'm just not sure with what at this point, maybe glass bottom kayaks or some sail type craft, just not motorized ones, that seems to be where the premiums go through the roof. Thanks for your inquiry and please continue to send people our way,we still have other fun things to offer. Take care, Doug aka Crabby"

IMHO Doug aka Crabby is good people. We have always enjoyed renting from him in the past and will continue to do so-- just not motorized Dinghy's. :-(

Awwwwww - that's not good. Crabby's dinghies were the only way we got to explore and snorkel the Hurricane Hole area. Kayaks are fun, but I'm not so sure of how to jump in and out of them to go snorkeling..... Guess we'll have to do the North Shore route next time. Hopefully, the "Little Arks" are still there. swim up behind, hands on the stern, press stern down into water, between your legs, grab yer seat, pull yourself up onto the top, press away from the 'yak like a push up, slide legs forward, and hope not to catch anything vital on the way......ouch!

Hey, Gromit, Somehow I'm not surprised about the
"dinghy thingy" with Doug. You're right about Doug being good people. Nobody eversays a bad thing about him!

Loved chatting with Doug two trips ago - he told us all the hows and whys he ended up on STJ (I love those stories). Per his recommendation, we purchased snorkel gear for our (then) 4-yr-old that he still uses; was a good deal compared to the other places we looked. Good people...

So is there anyplace in the Coral Bay area to rent a dinghy now, or will we have to go to the Cruz Bay side of the island?
