Getting itchy for 2008

I know it's only July, but I like to prepare in advance.

I'm already looking for a date to go in 2008 and calculating the date that will be 330 days before then so I can get on the phone with Delta to book the free tickets.

We also need a house, but I have to look again. I think Peace O'Heaven is out for us. I can't see us making a 3rd trip there. (See the other thread)

So, we want to stay near town, but not go deaf from the noise from the Sirenusa or Grand View(Grand Bay?) construction. Also, if the traffic circle construction is starting, how the heck do we get anywhere?

We want to stay near-ish to Cruz Bay in a 2BR house that's got a pool (Bongo may be too expensive).

This reminds me of 2003 when I got started looking. I'm back at square 1.

I guess there are worse things to worry about...

Are you on a budget? There area few in the Frank bay area that allow you to walk to town - Villa Caribe, Amora, Frank Bay House, Star Villa. I've heard good things about Perelandra, just above Jacob's Ladder, but never checked it out. PM me for the low down on most 2 br offerings withing walking distance to Cruz Bay

Perelandra looks cute. That one is on my list. Would it be off season? Miles Away is less than Bongo in off season.

We just got back from Perelandra. We loved it and will use it again. Nothing fancy but it was close to town, the bedrooms had good air conditioning, very private and good views. There wasn't a whole lot of noise from Sirenusa except for one morning.

Just make sure that you don't book it now during a week that we want to go back :-)

Is Perelandra up for sale? Or maybe it has already been sold?

I was concerned about Perelandra being up for sale when we booked for last January but owner assured me that they NEVER show it when guests are there and they have a contract clause that stipulates all bookings must be honored. We were certainly never bothered while we were there and in fact have booked it again for next January.

As previous poster stated, a very private place, with incredible views, conveniently located, and nice, homey feel. We've stayed many places on St. John and feel it's a very good value.

Scuttlebutt(?) is that all the remaining screen windows are due to be replaced by regular windows which will make 'close-up' so much easier and that hot tub may be added. Both would be nice but I hope they don't increase the cost. Will have to keep my eye on it...

Perelandra and I have been dancing for a while now. I think it may be the way to go.

Where is it located? It says hillside above Cruz Bay.

Thanks

FlipFlop...we're doing a house on the NC beach in September...not quite Outer Banks...Emerald Isle.

Didn't see the directions...Jacob's Ladder to top and then left.

There's a sign right there at the top of the hill, isn't there? It's a wooden, hand-painted sign. What's it say?

I've been up there...on an adventure around the area. Making the right out of that little road was fun. You have to watch for people barging up either side of the hill. Good times!

Do you turn left on Rock Ridge to get to Perelandra?

mmm hmmm. Im with you. The "place" has been picked and we are sending the deposit as soon as the price negotiations are complete! We will get our tickets as soon as the airline starts booking for that week in 2008. Too bad we have to wait THAT long to go back
 You should see my new ticker any day now!

for pipinale and mbw1024--

At top of Jacob's ladder turn left, grind it up hill (paved) past Serendip, past Sirenusa, past dirt road that goes off to your left, you'll see a ceramic sign that says "Perelandra" then it's the driveway about 40 feet beyond that.

If you keep going on the road past Perelandra, you get to Sunset Ridge then keep going straight & road turns to dirt; it's definitely a 4WD necessity but you can be at Pastory Gardens in less than 5 mins.

Also a good short cut to Centerline or you can continue on the South Shore road (I think that's what it's called--it goes past the Westin) almost to Fish Bay. When you see the sign that says "Dead End" you turn on the paved highway to your left, really steep ascent but out-of-the-world views. It'll take you past the School on Gift Hill & then connect you with Centerline (near the Myrah Keating Clinic, Paradise Lumber etc). Nice short cut to Maho, Francis, Coral Bay.

Hope this helps.
